It is not able to find the sysstem settings, on start up press continually F8 until you boot into safe mode. When a list of options show, highlight the line 'Last known good configuration' and press enter for a restart

Just give permission to load them again. Perhaps you have a program running or some security setting that wipes all cookies on shut down or startup.

If running XP

A log-on loop on your Windows XP computer is a difficult situation where the computer never completes its boot cycle, restarting intermittently ad nauseam.


This issue indicates a major problem with the boot functionality of your XP system.

Restore the computer to working order by utilizing the repair and restoration utility on your XP system disk.

Insert the XP disk into the computer.


Restart the computer.

Press any key when prompted to boot from the disk.

Press "Enter" at the first screen and "F8" at the license terms.


Highlight the drive containing XP and press "R," repairing the operating system boot files and removing the log-on loop.

or

Windows XP sometimes has a glitch when you are logging in to your user account in order to boot the operating system.

The glitch logs you in and then logs you off the account.


This problem is usually caused by one of the programs that load during the computer's start-up.

Fixing this issue is a matter of ensuring that whatever program is causing the problem doesn't start up as soon as you start your computer.

Power on the computer and allow it to get to the user logon page normally.

Right-click anywhere on the selected files.


Select "Delete" to delete those files.


Note that deleting the programs from the "Startup" folder does not delete them from your computer.


All this does is make it so that these programs no longer start as your computer is starting so that any error in the running of the programs doesn't interfere with logging in to your account.

My computer had been infected by a virus a few days ago then I run a full system scan in my computer and deleted all virus infected files then I restarted my computer and log in using my username and...


When you turn on your computer press F8 for the startup options and choose Safe Mode. When the computer enters Safe Mode run another system scan and then restart. If you are unable to enter your account again, try to do a System Restore (Start\All Programs\Accessories\System) to a date before the infection happened and then do another full system scan.

I turn on my puter it goes to the user login and then logs off


Hi,

I've run into this problem too often lately. So far I haven't managed to find a decent fix for it :( I've ended up having to backup the computer's data, reinstall windows, and restore all the data.

From the times I've seen it you get to the login screen, click on your user, get the "Loading personal Settings", a quick flash of the desktop, then back to the login screen saying "saving personal settings". It would do this in both safe mode and normal mode, so I was never able to try turning off startup software or services.

Booting to the windows XP disc and running a check disc might help, but from my experience with the problem you will probably need to reinstall windows. Hopefully someone else has a better idea.

Desktop theme changes at startup


That's not supposed to be a problem... When you log in to your account windows loads your personal settings, as well as other programs, so it's supposed to take time. Windows probably has the theme set on default so it would show that while your settings are loading. That or you've got a virus... But... if you think your computer is unusually slow then that's a different problem. Try cleaning up your hard disk space and doing other sorts of stuff, like scanning for viruses to make it run faster.

System won't log on


try safe mode. If it works, use system restore to go back to a previous working configuration. If safe mode does not work, try the last known-good configuration. Restart the computer, then as soon as the Dell logo shows up on the screen, press the F8 key repeatedly until you enter the Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow keys to select Last Known-Good Configuration, then press Enter.
