Check if any of the orange wires are hooked up behind the radio - if so, disconnect them, and see if it works.

I would start by disconnecting the radio and hooking it up right, the power should go through the ignition switch. So that when you turn the car off the radio will go off and to hear it on again you have to turn the key to accessory or start it.That might take care of a few of your problems.

I cannot match up the wires from my clarion DB265MP head to the wires from my 99 honda accord lx. when i ground the head and touch the main power line to the battery terminal, it works though. what gives?

you need to buy the wiring harness that is for your car then you can just hook the harness to your deck and plug it in to the car, unless your wires in your dash are all cut up,in that case you need a tester light.ground the light on somthing and look for the wire that lights up when the car is turned off, this is your battery back-up it goes to yellow on the deck, next look for a wire that has power with your ihgnition and loses power when ignition is off, this one goes to the red on the deck, look for a ground they are usually black but test it for power cause that would blow your fuse,or make your own by drilling a hole somewhere in the chassis and attach to black wire on deck,as for speakers you will prob need to remove front speakers, look at the colors and these are the same as colors youll see where deck is,then check back speaker wire colorwhich also runs to your dash

Need to reset the code on my Kenwood deck.

you should try the defaults 0000,0123,1234. in most cases unless you or the original owner put in the security code. Worse case it will just keep turning off till you get it right.

to install this unit in your a beginner i would strongly recommend buying a aftermarket radio harness (this harness will attach to the wire plug in your factory deck simply unhook the factory player and attach this harness to the plug you just pulled out of the factory unit) once this harness is installed on the factory plug it will be a simple colour match (just attach wires to pioneer wires IE. red - red, white - white........once all the wires are attached install in dash recommend buying a mounting unit for this net part it will hold the deck in place in your dash...........after that is done install your pioneer unit push it in place apply power by turning car deck should turn on and work if it does not turn right on look for a source button on the pioneer unit and hold it down till the unit turns on
good luck
hope i was able to help

Volume fade

Check to be sure there are no speaker wires touching ground, and that the wires are connected in phase to the head unit.
Front Speakers 5 1/4" Doors Left Front (+) Green Left Front (-) Black/White Right Front (+) White/Red Right Front (-) Black/White Rear Speakers 6" x 9" Rear Deck Left Rear (+) Pink/Red Left Rear (-) Pink/Blue Right Rear (+) Pink/Light Blue Right Rear (-) Green/Red

The symptoms you are relaying definately sound like an internal amplifier problem. It is fading in and out for a reason - usually due to heat.

Have you had the radio bench tested (seperate from the car) to eliminate the car as being the culprit?

Since the radio was run with damaged speakers originally, the output or amplifier power supply on the amplifier may be bad.

As an alternative to repairing, I would suggest investing in a small 2 channel amplifier to power the speakers.

The radios claim 50W per channel, but in reality give 12-15W RMS power.

A dedicated amplifier with built in crossovers and gain adjustments will prolong the life of your speakers and add to the tonal qualities of your new speakers. Instead of turning up the volume on the head Unit, and sending out a distorted signal that will blow your speakers, an amplifier will give more CLEAN power to them, so it will be louder at a lower volume setting.

This will bypass the internal amplifier on the radio, and send a Low Level signal ONLY thru a set of RCA cables.

Good Luck!!

Kenwood KDC-MP202 sound turns off when headlights are turned on

just solved a similar problem on my car i bought a Cd/dvd player for my 2000 concord lxi i hooked it up and hooked a rear-view camera and it worked perfect but wen i turned the headlights on the cd player shuts of so i disconnected the orenge wire that came out of my cd player from the orange on the aftermarket harness then grounded the ping wire (rear con wire) it worked fine but i couldn't see any footage from the camera for that i bought a long red power wire and hooked it to the red camera power wire that hooked from camera to reverse light and took the other end of the new wire i bought and hooked it to the orange wire that came out of the cd player now every thing works fine. you probably dont have the right power to run both cd and head lights thats why you need constant power to run both just hook up an extra wire between a positive wire to the orange dimmer wire its simple;

ground to ground (black)
12+ positive to 12+ positive (red)
and an extra wire (usually a red 18 guage wire bought mine at walmart) to the dimmer wire from the back of the cd player (orange) edit.gif

Flashing PROTECT

This is often caused by a problem with the speakers or speaker wiring. A speaker wire that's pinched behind the head unit will cause this problem if it's shorted to dash metal or the deck chassis. The first thing to do is remove the head unit and inspect all the speaker wiring for bare spots or pinched spots. If everything looks okay, disconnect all four speakers from the deck and switch it on. If it still shows "protect" then you have a defective head unit. If not, then turn it off, re-connect one of the speakers, and turn it on again. Continue until you find the speaker output that puts the deck into protect mode.
