Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

Oven temperature off

MY hotpoint RGB745 gas oven's temperature is off, sometimes as much as 200 degrees. It seems that the problem would either be with the temp sensor in the oven or the temp controller built into the digital clock. How can I find out which one is bad?

Ours is doing the same thing. We have to set it at 500 for it to maintain 350-400. We tested the heat sensor and it seems fine.

If you have a ohm meter you can ohm out the temp sensor. It has a harness that connects in the back. Unplug it and it should read around 1100 ohms at room temp. It sounds to me more like the ignitor itself. It has to draw so many amps to open up the gas valve. Check the sensor first. If it ohms out, change the ignitor. I think your problem will go away. I don't know what you found but thanks for the crappy rating. I now see what the other techs mean and why a lot of them won't waste their time helping people like this.

Replace the door seals, they are the thin rubber strips around the front of the oven when the door is open. They are simple to change as they just clip on.

Hotpoint gas oven

This is an indication of low gas pressure to the oven. This condition may improve when other gas equipment is turned off and worsen when demands increase such as during cold periods where heating plants are running. Contact your local gas company to check pressures at the burners and adjust the incoming pressure to the oven accordingly.
