Please go to control panel--system--hardware-device manager.

here expand clicking the + sign on cd/dvd rom drives. You will find names of the drives on your system. Just right click on it select uninstall. press apply, ok,. then restart the computer. Windows will automatically detect right drivers for your dvd and problem may be solved. If not replace the dvd.

Try uninstalling the drivers in device manager, shut down, reboot and Windows should find both devices, it might ask for your windows disk to install drivers or search online to install them

My cd/dvd combo driver will no longer burn discs

Instead of looking for repair programs, try looking for drivers for that specific cd/dvd drive. It may simply need a new driver.

My system cannot recognize that I have a DVD drive.

Have you tried to roll back the driver? If this doesnt work you may need to download the driver from somewhere online and reinstall the driver. Hope this helps. Please rate. Thanks

Dvd not working in xp

hi,
what that means is your dvd drive if fine and there is no hardware issue, this is a driver issue
the problem can be resolved by going to your desktop manufacturers website and reinstalling the drivers, if you have the driver media with you you can

right click my computer> properties> device manager > then remove the dvd drive from here
by selecting and removing it and then restart your system
when your system will restart the dvd drive will be redetected and now either xp will install the default drivers on its own or it will ask for driver cd/dvd if it asks for driver cd.dvd put it in and then install the drivers and it will work.

further queries are welcome

Ok - the link I found for a fix for the error messages also seems to have fixed the problem with disks not being recognized! Apparently it is all linked to WMP 11. So....here's the link to the fix:

Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close.

If you delete the information in the Control Panel and restart your computer, it will look for the driver by itself.

HP Media Center Desktop w/XP

Why would you want to connect to Windows? Yecch. Go to OSNews.com and check around for an interesting OS and filesystem combination.

Still, I'd chalk it up to your having plugged another bootable volume into the machine (e.g. a CD ROM) or otherwise changing the setup from what you brought to GeekSquad. Honestly, you've described the problem circumstances quite poorly. Does it not beep before booting -any- OS?
