I have a serious problem I have WindowXP Media EDITION AND NOW MY DVD/CD DRIVER will not work. I can Honestly say it was working about a month ago but know I have and error with an excalmation point saying hl_dt_stdvd_rwgwa-4165b. Can this be fixed?

I appreciate you telling me, but it did not work, what happen is there and glitch with the gateway driver:(? I can tell you when I put a disc in at the boot menu once i restart the computer the disc works I hear and see it moving. It's only as everything boots up and i try to use a dvd/cd nothing happens? Is there anything else you can recommend?????? Help!!!!!!!!lol

Please go to control panel--system--hardware-device manager.

here expand clicking the + sign on cd/dvd rom drives. You will find names of the drives on your system. Just right click on it select uninstall. press apply, ok,. then restart the computer. Windows will automatically detect right drivers for your dvd and problem may be solved. If not replace the dvd.

You will need to download the latest driver for your CD/DVD Player.
You can do this from device manager.
THen you can go to your F: Drive, click properties and make sure it is write enabled.

You can also use Media player to transfer to disc.

there are alot of kind of cd brand, like, maxwell. princo, ech.... use the common cds or dvd brand. may this cause of cd only. not good quality..otherwise chech your cd room drive. maybe the lins can recognise try to change another cd or dvd room for testing only.. befor you buy or changing totally..

Instead of looking for repair programs, try looking for drivers for that specific cd/dvd drive. It may simply need a new driver.

You can do that and it should take care of your problem. Most likely somehow or another (can happen with different software titles[for burning]) your upper and lower filters in the registry became corrupted and this is why your CD/DVD drive are not working properly. With the Media Card Reader, usually if you uninstall the USB Root hub in device manager (which it is on) there will be a few of them. Let the computer re-install the driver it will take care of this issue.

CD/DVD stopped working...device driver unable to be loaded.

Try cleaning the lense / As well install correct driver also; If nothing works out best alternative is to replace the CD/DVD rom with new or working once.

you are probably using a DVD media that is not supported
take a look at this it tells you all the supported and recommended media, also do the firmware upgrade as this may give more support to other media
