Question about Sony VAIO VGN-N250E/B Notebook

2 Answers

I have a Sony Vaio and I have had issues with Word 2007 for quite some time. 1. Cannot use the touchpad to move around the document area. Can use it on the menus and ribbon bars, but not to posistion the cursor within the document or scroll up and down. 2. When exiting Word a message box comes up and says "Microsoft Office Word has stopped Working" Sometimes it checks for a solution, but never finds one. 3. I cannot open the any Microsoft Office files without opening the program first. In other words if I double click on an Excel file from my desktop a essage box comes up with "Windows cannot find "filename" Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again" I have uninstalled Office and reinstalled it and I still have the same issues. Also, recently my laptop never goes into hibernation. When I close it, it remains running. I hope you can help me resolve these issues. I cannot afford to purchase another laptop or pay for Sony to look at it at this time.

You mentioned "recently my laptop never goes into hibernation" and that is the key to your issues. In order to solve that you'll need to reinstall some signficant part of the OS, using the system disk that came with the PC. When hibernation works again, your mouse and Word problems will be fixed, too. I suggest you start by uninstalling and re-installing (the reinstall will be done automatically by the operating system) your touch pad from the Device Manager (Windows Help tells you how to run Dev. Mgr.).

I also suggest after you set Windows to disable Hibernation as it's got a bug in XP (you can do so from the Power options applet in Control Panel).

Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-61317L) once I start browsing the internet, the screen freezes and the mouse cursor disappears from screen. When I don't browse the internet, it sometimes does the same thing

The reason this is happening is that as you are typing; you're resting some weight on the thin plastic above the touchpad...which then makes contact and registers a 'click'; thus moving your cursor around. Or you're brushing your thumb against it when hitting the space key.

Some laptops are more susceptible to this than others. Some more modern laptops come with a button to turn the touchpad off to solve this very problem.

The only thing you can do about this is to disable the touchpad through the touchpad driver (down by the clock, usually) and use a mouse instead. Depending on how you use your laptop, this will be more or less inconvenient- if your laptop never leaves the desk; disable the touchpad and use a mouse...no problem. If you go mobile a lot, you'll have to enable and disable the touchpad all the time.

The other thing you can do is adapt your typing style so you don't put any weight on anything but the key you're pressing. This is quite difficult and uncomfortable, and is not recommended for long sessions.

I have a Sony Vaio and though the touch pad allows the cursor to move around the page it does not allow me to click on anything. I have a Logitech mouse that I use but that is because the touch pad is not...

6. On the Mouse Properties pop-up window, left-click on the Device Settings tab.
7. On the Devices listing for Synaptics TouchPad, left-click the Settings button.
8. On the pop-up window Properties for Synaptics TouchPad on PS/2 port....

When i click on de touch,it does not work,,felp me plz

Reinstall the touchpad driver from sony support page of your computer model.
  • If the touchpad works intermittently, erratically, or without touching it, the problem may be caused by a recently installed piece of software.Troubleshoot the computer to see if the software is causing the problem.
  • If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the computer. Manuals are available online through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
  • This problem may be caused by an installed printer that is not physically attached and turned on. Attach and turn on the printer and then start the notebook. If this solves the issue, contact the manufacturer of your printer for additional troubleshooting information.
  • Touchpad driver updates are available through the Drivers & Software link on this page.
  • Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this problem, check the touchpad status after completing each step.
  • It is advised to use the VAIO Care™ troubleshooters and/or hardware diagnostics to help resolve your issue.
  1. Make sure that an external USB mouse is not connected to the notebook.
  2. Verify the correct AC adapter is being used and connected properly.
  3. If the problem is that the pointer is moving around the screen erratically, make sure the touchpad is not accidentally being touched while using the keyboard. NOTE: Try covering the touchpad with a piece of cardboard or paper while typing on the keyboard to see if in fact the touchpad is being touched while typing .
  4. If the problem is that the pointer is moving too fast or that it is difficult to double-tap or double-click, slow down the speed of the pointer and the double-click speed.
  5. Turn off and then restart the computer and, as the computer is restarting, press the F10 key to launch the VAIO Recovery application. If the touchpad does not work properly while in the VAIO Recovery application, then the issue is hardware based and service will be required to resolve the issue. If the touchpad works properly, proceed with the rest of this procedure. NOTE: Unless you wish to do so, or as a last resort to resolve this issue, it will not be necessary to proceed with any of the recovery procedures.
  6. Exit the VAIO Recovery application and restart the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. NOTE: The remaining step of this procedure will be performed with the computer in the Safe Mode with Networking mode.
  7. Reinstall the touchpad drivers. NOTE: The touchpad drivers can be reinstalled through the Drivers & Software link on this page.
  8. Use the System Restore feature to restore the computer to a point when the touchpad was working correctly.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your problem. If you have completed all of the steps and the problem is not fixed, service may be required.

Trouble when typing on the keyboard on my sony vaio

Keep the palms of your hands away from the "touchpad" -- you're accidentally moving the mouse-pointer as your fingers press on the keys.

Touchpad and buttons won't click on Sony Vaio

Hi,
it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost

to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,

If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me
Regards
Ltoso
