Question about SGI Silicon Graphics Computers & Internet

Open Question

SGI 1600SW MSWINXP SP3

I have 1 of these old SGI monitors and also the 3DLabs card to connect it to my PC, I've used it for years and it worked great...until I installed SP3 for XPPro. Even after removing it per the MS SP3 removal instructions and reverting to SP2, the adapter card and drivers appear to be suddenly incompatible with XP. I recall reading something at that time about how the updates contained in the SP3 release perform security actions with the ".sys" filename and the ancient glint.sys driver (needed by the SGI monitor) is now probably appearing as some unused reg entry somewhere inside now totally secure NTFS file system. Have you heard of a sucessful work around to this problem?

How install samsung sgh pc suite

Thank you for visiting FixYa!

Samsung PC Studio / Suite 3.2.1 HA4 for Vista is application you need if your have a Samsung multimedia mobile phone and Vista as your Operating System. It lets you convert all types of multimedia material in Windows to your Samsung mobile phone, with perfect synchronization between PC and phone.

Thus from the PC you can manage and administer all the multimedia content you have, you can access your SMS, transfer videos, photos, music, etc, create new contacts, write multimedia SMS/MMS, convert between different video and audio formats, etc.

In other words, you can control, from your PC, all your Samsung phone options more comfortably and effectively, at the same time as synchronizing multimedia material between the two.

You can download it for free here: Samsung PC Studio 3.2.1

To download Samsung PC Studio 3.1.3 for Win 2000 / XP : Click here

If you have the Samsung i8510, the updated version (7.7.2.20.9) is available to download from http://uk.samsungmobile.com/supports...510&sw_type=SW

Note: If the installer fails or seems to be taking a long time (more than 5 minutes without doing anything) then uninstall ALL Samsung PC Suite components, including the CDMA drivers; then restart your computer and re-run the new installer.

If you found this information helpful please give me a big thumbs-up when you rate my answer. Thank you.

Silicon grphic 1600sw adapter to vga

You want the SGI Multilink adapter. Like the 1600SW it's long out of production though.

Ebay may be the best chance.

Upgrade Sgi 320 To Windows XP

I got this from wiki

The 320 and 540 Visual Workstations shipped originally with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. Due to the ARCloader PROM, a custom Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for Windows was necessary. Windows 2000was the last release which included the required SGI-specific HAL.Because of that, and because SGI ceased supporting the VisualWorkstation series, installation of future Windows versions such as XPis unsupported.

So it doesnt support xp. if u use windows 2000 it might just work. Its hardware design makes it not xp compatible.

No green color on display. All updated drivers and monitor is good

If all drivers are updated and you are positive monitor is ok then it must be the connection in between (video cable) or there is a slight chance the video card is gone bad.

I would try a new video cable first

Try reseating the video card in the slot on the board (take it out and put it back in)

Try the monitor on a different PC if possible with the same cable you are using on yours.

If monitor works fine on different pc and cable is good then also try different video card if possible (even if yours is not old) I’ve seen new cards suddenly have problems for various reasons everything from video cable had a little to much tension on it and the solder connections on the video card came loose all the way to the card just decided to quit working from some sort of defect so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

But the most common reason for the problem your having is usually loose connection on back of monitor or PC or bad video cable.

Upgrade Sgi 320 To Windows XP

That's true, I have a dual 1 GhZ SGI 320 and it can only go as far as Windows 2000 Professional and with an Orange Link adapter card can you get the the USB Fire Wire to work as intended. There are a few sites out there where SGI users can still exchange info. I upgraded the machine from a Dual 500 mhz processors and followed several sites walk throughs on the updates & software update. Keep in mind this machine can only run 1GB of ram which is specific to SGI and hard to find, and if you are still willing to pursue the dual processor upgrade they have to be matched and a specific voltage regulator has to be used for the higher speed processors. Will the sytem boot up and run now? If it does and you are not inclined to do all of the other upgrades it makes a good server w/ WIN2K. What did you pay for it? I noticed there are some mentions about finding them on ebay still. Problem is the sellar isn't going to tell you about the limited upgrade path that these once powerful machines have. A lot of scrapped or cannibalized 320 & 540's are out there. If you run older cad or visualization 3d programs it works great, games forget it esp. the newer ones that require the latest directX. If your machine came with a separate sound card with midi interface that works great with legacy sound editing programs but becomes inoperative with the WIN2K upgrade. When I say older and legacy, like around 1999 to 2003 programs. You have what's considered a hotrod of it's time, but it's easily overshadowed with the newer dual, quad-core, xeon machines. For reference sake when the 320 shipped to customers back in 1999 configured with dual 500 mhz processors 500mb ram, soundcard & speakers and a 21" sony CRT monitor it was just under $9K - that was and is still a lot of money. But it ran the programs fast esp. ones written with dual processor support like Photoshop and Accurender...Dell, IBM and HP all had and still have "workstation class" machines. SGI just doesn't do Windows based machines, and it looks like they are in deeper financial trouble now. 9d5e209.jpg

3Dlabs Wildcat VP880

This card, I own one, is obsolete. Unless you find soneone who is planning to change from AGP to PCIe graphics, I don't think you will find one anywhere. 3dLabs sold the Wildcat line to Creative. Perhaps that route will profit you. I assume the usual searches have come a cropper. I would sell mine to you should I build my HTPC. It is a mite noisy for that purpose.
