Shutting shutter sound...

Hello to you all,
I have a D80. I use it to take pictures at concerts and ballet shows, and the shutter sound is disturbing.
Is there a way of "silencing" the camera?
Thank you.

Yes in the menu settings there is an on off toggle. If you don't find it let me know.

    zeev_schnapp,
The actual shutter does make a sound, what was I thinking? The lens also makes sound while focusing. If you are taking photos for the venue you may move away from the rest of the audience as not to disturb them. If you take them for personal use you may have to be selective at the timing when you shoot.

HiI am sorry to hear, but you will have to some professional. Regarding your d80 has common problem of sequence unit defective. I believe that is the problem and your local repair shop would charge around $75 to 235 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

Nikon D80 shows err and no picture can be taken. shutter gives ussual sound as if taking picture. autofocus does not work

I have just experienced the same problem while on vacation - very frustrating! Luckily my wife had a D60 so we could continue shooting. I checked the troubleshooting section of the manual and it advises to try firing the shutter. This did not clear the problem and indicates a camera malfunction, so I am arranging for the camera to go to a Nikon Service centre. It's very annoying as the camera is only 20 months old and has not been used heavily.

I was told that i need to replace my shutter on my D80. and it is only 2 years old. is that a normal thing?

A Nikon D80 shutter is rated to fire 100,000 times. Have you taken that many pictures in 2 years? If so, that means you've shot about 137 pictures a day for 2 years!

Hi and welcome to FixYa.

I could go into a long disertation about your camera settings and what you should use, but I should let Ken explain it. I read this a couple of months ago (because I love photography too)! He has some good ideas, tips, tricks and really has the D80 dialed in. You can read it here.

Control Panel display no information.

Do you mean the control panel on top or the big LCD on the back?

The display on top should be showing you stuff like the shutter speed and aperture as you take the picture.

The display on the back will not show you the picture while you're taking it. The D80 does not have a Live View capability.
