Question about Cherokee Jeep Grand RB4 Navigation, AM/FM, CD, With CD Changer Controls

1 Answer

Navigation CD will not read.

My 2006 Laredo navigation CD stopped reading. It just displays error reading disc. I never removed it, never played with it. It was working fine until 2 months ago. Did the CD get outdated or something?

I have the same problem with my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. anyone have any thoughts?  Is it the disc?

I have the same problem. I recently bought a 2006 grand cherokee limited, and the nav didn't work from the get-go. The dealership had just received it, and it hadn't been cleaned up yet. I pointed out to the sales guy that the nav didn't work, and he said they would order a disk for it. Two or three weeks later, i went back to the dealership and bought the jeep. The nav still had the same error message, and they then said they would have to replace the whole unit. Two weeks later, i took it back to have the new unit installed. After that, they said that they would still have to order a disk for it. A week later, they put the disk in, and it worked fine for about a day. It's been about a week now, and it works correctly about 75% of the time. I'm gonna take it back in (the dealership is 60 miles away) to see if they can resolve it. I supposedly have a new radio with a new disk, so it should work 100% of the time.

I have the same problem with my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition. Has anyone tried the new NAVREQ, Dec. 2008 release ($199.00)?

Have a 2006 Liberty with the RB1. I never removed the disk until it started giving me intermittent read errors about a year ago. I had the disk replaced by the dealer and it worked fine for about 8 months. Now I have the same problem with the intermittent read errors again. Don't know if it's the unit or the disk. I stopped at the dealer for assistance and they told me to just clean the disk and try it again. Great. Why didn't I think of that?

Eject the disc, use a little water and a soft towel to clean it. The discs occasionally get dusty being in a car and such. be careful when cleaning though, as MOPAR will charge you several hundred $$ for a replacement one.

My navagation system keeps saying that it "cannot read disk" please check disk. Do i need a new disk or is something wrong with my system? 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

the the problem is from the laser (lens) of your navigation system. It cannot read disk because the laser (lens) is weak or dirty.

Its might also be that the disk you inserted into the system has some scratches or the disc is bad. Try several discs on the system.

If problem still persists after trying several discs, get the laser replaced and it should read disk again.

Good luck.

I have 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have SAME problems - Nav error reading disc. I tried another disc but did not work. No one seems to have an ANSWER on our posts in this forum - I know to clean the disc...

i think the issue with all these problems is that the fan in the back of the navigation system fails and then the disc overheats tremendously (mine overheated to the point that I could not touch it) and then it can not be read.

How to remove CD from Nagation/DVD 2005 Dodge Durango

The cover labeled NAVIGATION DISC needs to be removed, top left is an opening where a small flat head screwdriver would help. Completely remove cover and eject disc is on the right.

got mine off ebay for a decent price.  you can also order through the dealership.  if you order a newer one (make sure it is for the jeep) it will make some minor changes (upgrades) to your radio.

Your CD player thinks the CD is in Upside down. Basically it cannot read the disc. You need to run a CD laser Lens cleaner disc to hopefully get it back reading the Discs good again. Otherwise you will nee to take it apart and clean it all yourself manually.
