The indicator light stays on our PVS50 water heater.

Robertshaw 2000Wi per-CL (160-15-L) is the name of the control. It does come back on after you unplug and replug, but it no longer comes on automatically.

Hi,
What you are hearing is the noise of the water percolating around the element. This usually is a sign that the sediment in the tank is getting close to the bottom element and limiting the flow of the water around the heating element. This causes the water to boil around the element.

Here is a tip about how to clean the sediment out of your hot water heater..

After 8 years of trouble free service, our rheem pvs50 water heater makes a hum/squeal when water is being used. Resetting the power breaker stops the noise until water is used again.

It sounds like the heating elements are getting coated with calcium/lime/other chemicals that are found in your water. This would indicate that the elements are approaching the end of their life and may be getting ready to burn out. Consider getting some new elements soon and scheduling a time to install them.

PVS50 rheem power vent water heater do not reignite/restart/kick

I actually just installed one of these the other day, I found that the ignitor wires were straped to the gas inlet and they were shorting out,, I wraped them with electric tape and the unit came on and stayed as for the thermostat make sure your flue is clear of all obstuctions even outside, make sure on the vent on the top back of the unit is clean and no lint or dust has built up on it, you can take a small soft brush and just sweep it across it
