Question about Kenmore 24 in. 16039 Built-in Dishwasher

Dishwasher fill with water then just hums

The dishwasher fills with water as it is supposed to but when the wash cycle tries to start all the machine does is hum. It's a sound not unlike a stuck motor. If I hit cancel the machine will drain as it should. Water preasure and motor both seem to be operation normally. Prior to this the "Clean" button was flashing and I reset it using a sequence found here. It worked fine for several months and now it has started this new problem.

The hum is probably the main pump powered up but not turning. the pump is an induction motor and a usual fault is the motor capacitor. try to access it, find the value of the capacitor and replace. it is a cheap part

sounds like your main circulation pump is not working, if it is humming when it is supposed to start, sounds like it is getiing power, so probably not the control circuits, can you measure voltage to pump?
if you are getting 120 there, probably pump motor is dead

WATER ONLY FILLS 1ST TIME ON ANY CYCLE

Hi, After the first cycle, and after it drains/spins, does it start agitating when the next load of water is suppose to be filling?
Please let me know so I can assist you further. Sounds like the pressure hoe from the tub to the water level switch is plugged.

Thanks
Vic

Loud humming noise when dishwasher is filling up with water

your model is pretty new. just so you know your warrenty is 1 year parts and labor. 2 years on parts. it should not cost that much money.

there are two components that start before the circulation pump.(wash noise you hear)

first sounds you hear will be the drain pump. usually rattling noises if something is in it but it can make a hum noise if something is jamming the drain propeller up. which is accessible with a T20 torx driver. take the filters out and the mesh filter. and unscrew the screw in the base towards the left. pull out whatever is lodged.

the other humming sound can come from the next component that activates is the watervalve. make sure you dont have a kinked water intake line. otherwise its a bad valve. i have had to change a few of those water valves out already but not for a hum noise on your model. you have a new style water valve. when brands make new parts we get problems fast sometimes..

Dishwasher fills, when the pump is supposed to start it just whir

Hello, sounds like a broken wash impeller or a stripped drive impeller (the piece that fits inside the impeller). These two parts are driven by the wash motor and propell the water through the spray arms. good luck

GE washing machine does not run, gives humming noise

A washing machine is a simple product.

When trouble shooting anything you have to know what is supposed to do and what is it not doing.

At the begining of a washing machine cycle the machine fills with water until a switch is made telling the machine it is full and ready to agitate. Since it never fills it will stick in that part of the cycle.

When you start a cycle and no water enters the drum you have one of three problems:

1. The water supply is shut off.
2. The solenoid valve that supplies the water is not opening.
3. No power to the washing machine.

Since you are hearing a hum, the machine seems to be trying to activate that valve,
The humming noise comes from the electromagnetic field that activates the valve,

Dishwasher only starts if I tip it, then it sticks during cycle and hums

The left side (behind the metal side panel)of your machine has a blue and yellow mechanism which regulates the level of water for your machine(if there is no big yellow disk at the top of the mechanism then your machine is time fill). It also has a built in safety that if water should enter the white pan on the bottom, the drain pump will activate and stay on. It sounds like the machine problem has to to with water and flow level. You can observe the filling and running of your machine with the side panel off. (the connections at the switches on the float assembly are live be careful)
