SOURCE: I need to tighten belt for the mower deck, how is

Each of the pulleys on top of the deck should have tensioners. These tensioners are usually the type which have a bolt for you to tighten while attached to the pulley. While you tighten the bolt, the pulley puts tension on the belt.

Craftsman Lawn tractor 20 hp twin clynder briggs with a 42 inch deck I need a model number the plate is unreadable

Maybe this will help. The mower deck part # 165892. Mower Deck Assembly 42" I not sure of the model # . I also don't know your tractor's model # either. This part # for the 42" mower deck,is installed on a 18.5 HP Craftsman Lawn Tractor. I believe there isn't any difference between a model !8.5 HP and a model 20.0 HP, tractor when it comes to a mower deck. B.Locke

Craftsman rider mower 917259567 has a knob for adjusting the mowing height. how does it work, mine seems to be broken

Hello,

The adjusment knob works only when the mower deck is in the UP, position. You then start by turning the knob CLOCKWISE, if you turn it far enough the mower deck wont go down. You back it off ( COUNTER-CLOCKWISE) to hold the deck in a lower position. Just rember you cant fine tune the heightsetting knob with the weight of the deck resting on the stop (knob), just pick the dech up a little then adjust the knob.

Hope this helps, Matt

Every time I lower my mower board my mower stops or slows down. I just replaced the mandrel and also the belt. When my mower board is raised up all the way the mower works good.

Lower the deck without it running and see if anything is making contact with the mower belt that shouldn't be. Sure sounds to me like you have the belt in a bind when you lower the deck, possibly by not routing the belt in the correct position when you replaced the belt.

My mower wont start...i replaced the battery and it just clicks

Have a friend jump start the mower while you a seated on it. Turn the key to the "on" position. Connect the black jumper cable from a known good battery to a good ground on the mower and the red cable directly to the electrical connection of the starter. If the starter does not engage, it is faulty.

I have a 20 HP Sears riding mower with 42" deck. Something has caused the right side of the deck to sit lower. It literally sits on the ground when lower to #1 position.

There are deck leveling adjustment bars located on most lawn tractors, most are equipped with a large plastic wing nut. There will be one on each side, with the mower off, lower the deck to the lowest position, loosen the wing nuts on each side, then re-tightnen. There is also a possibility if this is not the way your deck is levelled, there will be a deck hang wire/rod, however those are usually found on zero turn style mowers.

My deck is way too low. How do I adjust it?

Your mower should have a lever on it that you move to raise or lower your deck. The lever will normally have the slots that it locks into numbered like the trans gears if yours is not automatic.

Craftsman 42" riding lawn mower blade free spinning but wont cut

It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running.
Hope this helps
