Connecting Pioneer SX-737 Receiver to computer problems

We have a Pioneer SX-737 Receiver. I know this is a really old receiver. It is my husband's and am trying to record vinyl LPs to my computer for him for Christmas. I have gotten the RC plugs to 1/8 plug. I have plugged it into several places on the back of the receiver and tried several different settings on the front of the receiver, but it appears that no sound is getting to the computer. Can anyone help me figure out what the settings are and where I am supposed to plug in the back to get the sound from the receiver to the computer. Thank you.

The turntable is not a part of the receiver. It is plugged into the Phono plugs on the back of the receiver. Here are my choices:

On the back of the Receiver:

Input plug-ins:
Phono
Aux

Tape 1
Rec
PB

Tape 2
Rec
PB
Rec/PB

On the front:

Filter:
Low (on/off)
High (on/off)

Rec Selector
FM
Phono
Source
Duplicate
-Tape
-Monitor 1 (on/off)
-Monitor 2 (on/off)

Loudness: (on/off)

Function:
AM
FM
Phono
Mic
Aux

I've been recording LPs for over a year now.

I've got the turntable outputs plugged into the phono inputs on the receiver amp.

I'm taking the Y cord (pair of RCA connectors at one end, mini plug at other) from the Tape Record (these are what you'd use to send a signal to the tape deck for recording) on the amp to the "line in" on the sound card. You may want to look up the specs on your sound card to make certain that you've got the plug in the correct socket. There may be a "line in" and a "microphone" socket. Use the "line in"

What recording software are you using? Audacity is free and is ok. I'm using Goldwave (costs ~$50) and highly recommend it. MUCH better than any other package I've tried. Just google "goldwave" to find it.

The recording software should have an option for selecting / specifying a source. If you have "microphone" selected and the y cord going into the "line in" socket, yoiu won't get anything.

Buy some electronic contact cleaner in a spray can, attach straw, "unplug receiver" and spray the power button, you may have to remove to be more effective.

I would like to set up my old Pioneer PL-514 turntable and my Pioneer SX-550 sterio reciever to listen to some old LPs. I seem to have lost the instructions and connection diagrams. Could you please...

The upper link is for the turntable, the lower is for the receiver. they want you to create an account tu dowlnload so just create an account with them. In my expierience turntables had hook upeads out the back(wires connected) that would hook to phono in on receiver and speakers would hook to receiver via speaker wires(may not be included) by pos and neg. The speaker wire usually either has a rib or a line or writing on on leg so you can identify which wire you would want to be pos or neg.

Blown Fuse / SX - 205 / Pioneer reciever

Check the area where the fuse was...it's usually marked on the board or next to the fuse holder. Check the size also, 2 types 5x20mm or 1/4x1 1/4 in. Usually slow blow.

Yes, but it depends on your laptop hardware and software. We'd need to know a lot more about that side.

Record from turntable to computer via Pioneer SX-737 Receiver

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Pls be informed that the model was not displayed, only the brand Pioneer.

Nonetheless and assuming that the turntable is built-in into the receiver, locate the REC out or LINE out at the rear of the receiver. Plug the RCA of the cable there while the 1/8 plugs into the AUX/LINE IN of the computer. Select PHONO in the receiver, in the computer, double click-on the speaker icon in the System Tray (clock). The speaker control window will open:
  • click on Options;
  • click on Properties;
  • tick/click Recording;
  • check Line in and/or Aux;
  • press on OK button;
  • adjust Aux/Line in setting to desired level.
It is of course necessary to likewise be running a recording program.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I just bought an old vintage pioneer sx 737 receiver and cannot get NO fm reception, and only 2 or 3 on am....HELP!!!!! I have used antennas as well...Charlie

Even with just a short wire, this model should be receiving a number of stations. Is there an IC inside marked LA7001 or something similar? If so, it is probably defective. This is a common failure. I'll look up your specific model later to confirm.
