Just try a hard reset by holding down the home and sleep buttons for 10 seconds. See if that works and then connect to the USB port of your computer and see if iTunes starts automatically and recognize it.

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. You may have to hold the buttons down for up to 20 seconds before anything happens. Afterwards, your device should restart and return you to the Home screen.Nov 30, 2013
Your phone is either corrupted or the battery was just drained. Plug iphone to pc, restart computer while iphone is plugged. Or What you have to do is to enter dfu mode so iTunes can detect an iPhone
in recovery mode and then prompt you to restore. You will lose all your
files when you do this but if you have a backup in iTunes then you're
good to go. To enter dfu mode, just press both power and home buttons
simultaneously for exactly 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the
power but keep holding home then wait until iTunes detects your iphone
and prompt you to restore.
this should probably work try holding the homescreen button and the lock button at the top for about 15 seconds it should restart and you'll see the apple logo wait for a couple of minutes and you should be fine
press and hold the power button and the home button together for 10-15 seconds till you see an apple logo re appear on the screen. If that does not work, power down the phone, press and hold the home button and connect it to your computer. Once you see the message in iTunes that an iphone has been detected in recovery mode let go of the home button and restore your phone
hold the on off button down and the button at the bottom of the phone together for 15 seconds till the screen goes blank dont worry if anything comes on the screen then wait a further 5 seconds then swicth the phone on the problem should solved
I had the same problem just now with my iPhone 3G. It froze for like an hour and a half! I heard calls come in but wasn't able to answer because the screen wouldnt come up. I pressed the top clicker button and the main button for about 10 seconds and the apple logo came up (finallyyy). It took about another minute and then the screen came back up and prompted me for my passcode. I hope this can help you all!
The best way to fix this is to hold the Power and the Home button for 15 seconds or so, basically hold them both until the Apple Logo reappears. I work at o2 and have seen this problem a few times, its nothing major, just annoying
down the power button and home button simultaneously for 15 - 20
seconds then release. Soon after you may have to press the power button
again to restart the device. The iPhone
should reset itself without any loss of data. If it boots in recovery
mode ( you will be a cable on the screen ) you will need to connect to
itunes to restore the device.
This is most ofter the #1 solution to fix this issue. Hope it works for you.
My iphone froze up today, it just gave me a half lit screen and I couldn't even turn it off, nothing would work. I held the home button and power off button at the same time for several seconds and this seemed to make it worse. I did the same thing again, and it restarted the phone. Nothing lost except for 3/4 of the battery life for some strange reason. All is good, my phone is back!
