Newly built computer, nothing showing on the monitor

945GCT-M/1333 with NVidia GeForce 9800 GT. I have a Cicero flat screen monitor which works on other computers in our house. Computer was not purchased with o/s. I wish to install Windows XP. There doesn't seem to be a signal to the monitor. Is there something I must do? I am an amateur.

    To gymowner:

The machine will not boot into bios settings. I'm wondering now if it has to do with the NVidia GeForce. Can I remove the new video card first and see if it will work that way?

  • lynvcambel Dec 21, 2008

Thank you to everyone who tried & succeeded in helping me. The Video Card was loose when I went to take it out and use the on-board video. I then installed Windows, put the Video Card back in and everything is working fine. Happy Holidays!

If there is no operating system there is nothing to see, will the machine boot into the bios settings?, if so, you need to set the computer to boot from the dvd drive, then put the disk in and let it boot from the drive, not the hard drive the dvd drive where the operating system resides. if you get to that point and have all your disks ready in case you need to instal different drivers during the install. follow the directions and you should be ok, please don't forget to rate my performance, I'll be up another hour or so if you run into trouble just try to hang on till I find you in the cue, or I'll check with in the morning, it will take about 45 minutes once you start so if you want to start tomorrow in the AM let me know, Peace and have a good night Gym

I.m back only will only stay for a while, I came on to help you and another guy who had a similar problem, so I will look to see you in my cue from time to time, and the answer is yes you can try with another card, it sounds like the geforce either needs a different slot or it needs to be enabled from the bios. Try going in and see if it perhaps is in the wrong slot, I have dual 7900's on here runninh in SLI, and I know that it needs to be in the upper slot in mine when running 1 card, let me know, thanks

Is there a video output anywhere else on the back of the computer besides the one from the card itself that you are plugged into?
If so try it.If it works, then U may have to disable it in the BIOS in order for the new video card to work.
Thats called onboard video.Switch it to AGP/PCI or whatever other mode it offers.Another thing is to be sure that the card you have will even work on the system you have. Look up the system or motherboard and see if that particular card is equal to or less than the maximum speed of your motherboard.

Can an EliteGroup 945GCT-M3 run a Geforce 440 GT graphics card?

AS it GEFORCE 440 requires (pci express) PCI-E 2.0 x 16 and your motherboard has 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, so you just need to check your motherboards manual if motherboards pci express is x16 2.0 if so, you can go for a upgrade and run. as I found itcan run nvidia geforce 8 or 9 on fixya.

This motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card.

You could use:
Geforce 6 series (6800GT)

Geforce 7 series (GeForce 7950, GeForce 7900, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600 ,
GeForce 7300, GeForce 7200 and GeForce 7100)

945GCT - HM motherboard, SPDIF out?

Hi, Before doing anything please refer the motherboard manual, and as per my knowledge you need not solder any pin on the board, if you do so may be something else might not work. I better suggest you to check the Manual before doing anything.

Asus P5GZ-mx compatible graphics cards

Basically, any graphics card is capable of being compatible with this motherboard. I had some difficulties for a while until I figured out you have to MANUALLY set it to use your PCIE 2.0 GPU output.
How to do this is to set your jumpers to external output only. First thing you'll want to do is update the BIOS on the motherboard (Which you can do by getting "Asus-Update". Find it on google, easy to use, just make sure your computer doesn't crash during the BIOS flashing.
Afterwards, set the jumpers to use your PCIE-2.0 slot. Took me a little while to figure this out, and it's a little hard to explain.
Above your PCIE-2.0 slot there are 5 little blue 'plastic-like' things. Those are your jumpers. Take them out and insert them HORIZONTALLY as such:
+ [ + + ] + [ + + ] + [ + + ] + [ + + ] + [ + + ]
Basically, make sure the jumper things are connecting the little drawing there. They HAVE to be horizontally inserted, otherwise this WILL NOT WORK. Just plug in your monitor to the graphics card's output, and you're good to go. Hopefully it works for you.
