Wsp150 transmitter failure

After owning this system for about a year, the transmitter will only take power for about ten seconds, and then the green LED blinks off. Disconnect power inputto transmitter, then replug, powers up, good for another ten or less seconds, on and on. No noticable audio signal even during those ten seconds. Have read of others with same problem, but no solution seen. Opened case, smelled for transistor burn out, none detected, reassembled, no change in symptoms.

I have a WSP150 Wireless system from RCA. The transmitter, when plugged into the power supply (19V) will flicker green for a second, but will not come on.

I found a problem where the dc power jack meets the pc board on the transmitter. I saw actual arcing at the solder joint. I heated up the joint

to remelt the solder, but then it didnt work at all after that.

I had the same thing, it would power up, die. Pull plug, power up, die.

I thought it was the power plug, that proved good so I went into the transmitter and checked the jack itself thus discovering the arcing.

Wonder if anyone else has seen this problem.

We are experiencing the same problem as the the Tinker! The transmitter will only stay on for a few seconds then the green light turns off! We did disconnect the power input to the transmitter, then reconnect then stays on for a few more seconds and off again! Was not aware of this problem till searching the internet. We also opened the case, tried it with another set of speakers & still the same problem.Nothing appeared burned, put it back together & still no change. Sure could use a new transmitter!! The speakers are useless without it! These were a gift to us & have had them approximately 7 or 8 months. How about a little help with this?? Thanks! Bert

I have the same problem - green indicator light goes off after 5 seconds - unplug and plug and it does the same thing. Do I need a new transmitter and if so can I use another name brand -something generic.

I have the exact same problem...does anyont have a solution? The holidays are fast approahing, I need my wireless speakers!

  • Micky Feb 02, 2012

I fixed mine today by opening and removing the board, gently heating, removing the ground and the 3 post power input along with any solder. Gently remove surface layer exposing metal board connection. Flux and resolder carefully as there are other solders very close to each other. The problem is not the post to the solder on back, its the post and solder to the thin metal board. It now works like new again. Good Luck! ps. dont use a torch unless its micro youll burn it up.

The following alternative may solve your problem:
Check to make sure the volume on the audio source is set to a normal volume. If the volume is too low, the transmitter will not turn on.

I have the speakers and power adapter but i can not find the transmitter....can i purchase the transmitter only..??

any transmitter will work by RCA..... The one for the WHP141 works just fine and that headphone set w/transmiter is about 19$ on Ebay as well as other places, be aware that the transmitter will not transmit UNTIL the sound source is hooked up and the sound is high enough to trigger the transmitter into working..... do not expect the green light to come on simply because it is plugged in, because it wont.....also if the sound is not high enough from the source the sound will cut in and out......notice also that the transmitter power supply is the 19 Volt one, and the tip is - and the out side ring is the + reversed of what many after market power supplys are.........the cool thing is the gain of a set of decent head phones as well as being able to use the speakers.....so many people fail to even READ the instructions and think that the units are defective because the green light does not stay on when pluged in......pays to read.....

Quantum 3213. the door opener opens neighbors and visa versa

You can follow these instructions to change the code of yours. Might work for you.

NOTE: You must change the transmitter's code before programming the transmitter to the motor head unit.
The following steps describe the process to change a Quantum™ and Classicdrive™ security code.
This process only works fro transmitters with a GREEN LED and a "U" in their model number, such as "02-3047 2B U" or "02-3047 2B UH".
Changing the Transmitter Code
1. Press and hold the button on the transmitter that you want to change. The GREEN LED will flash once and then turn off.
2. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 10 seconds).
3. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button and then immediately press and hold the same button again. The GREEN LED will now come on steady.
4. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 5 seconds).
5. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button.
6. The code for this button has now been changed to a new randomly generated code. Do not push the button again until instructed in "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
7. You must now re-program this transmitter to the motor head unit. See "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit
1. Press the PROGRAM button located on the garage door motor head unit once. The PROGRAM STATUS light on the motor head unit will turn on and remain lit for one minute, indicating that it is ready to learn the Transmitter code.
2. Press the same button on transmitter as you did in "Changing Transmitter's Code" above. The PROGRAM STATUS light will turn off indicating a successful learn.
3. Press the same button on the Transmitter once more to operate the door.
4. If you are unsuccessful in programming the transmitter to the motor head unit of if the button does not operate the door or if you wish to program another button to operate a different door, you must change the transmitter's code.
Battery
If the LED does not turn on when button is pressed, replace battery.
