display when a short in a speaker wire or speaker with low impedence is
hooked to the internal amp and sends it into protect mode, shutting
down the amplifier section while the rest of the unit continues to work.
Check to make sure exposed wires aren't grounding themselves out. I just had this problem and after 2 days of re-wiring and re-checking almost every wire I finally found the culprit. The Remote wire from my amp has become exposed and grounded itself out. Unit worked fine, same problems you are having.

Check your Factory speaker locations for blown speakers or bare wires to metal.
i would not change out the lights because they work for a minuet showes you that tey work. it is very unlikely that all lights would be intermitent, since there more than one power wire you should check power with a meter and see what wire turnes on then off with the simtom, possibly the light switch wire @ the plug-in connector.
