Plastic strip fell off/out of back of ink cartridge

The printer started making a loud crunching sound and when I open the printer the plastic strip had fallen off. I took the printer completly apart and reinstalled the strip. When I turned the printer back on it worked for a few swipes and then the strip fell off again and made the crunching noise again. When I line up the strip with the post in the back of the printer it appers that the holes in the end of plastic strip are a to big for the post to hold it properly. I have tried multiple times to fix this problem and have had hte same issure every time. Please help me to fix this problem so that i can use my printer.

SOURCE: A plastic strip seems to have out fallen; its the

It CAN easily be fixed, probably. Just re-thread it through the hole in the sensor on the print head (may be hard to find). Then one end goes onto a fixed rectangular hook, the other end is held in place by a tiny spring. If you have lost the spring then you have a problem.

Hp 8180 says carriage jam but there is nothing in there and makes a loud grinding sound..

Look at the thin plastic strip when you open the printer. It may have an ink smudge on it. Use a cloth dampened with water and GENTLY wipe both sided of that strip, moving the cartridge holder across and wiping the entire strip. Then try again. That strip has little lines on it which signal the electronics where the carriage is. If any ink gets on it, the carriage can't count the lines and a jam will occur.

Where do you insert the ink cartridges on lexmark x4650

These are the instructions for X2500 Printer
1.Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
2.Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
3.Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.
4.Remove the new black #28 ink refill cartridge from its packaging. Tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor. Now, remove the new color #29 ink refill cartridge from its packaging and tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor.
5.Turn the cartridges so that you can read the label. This is the way the cartridges should face when being put into the printer.
6.Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
7.Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
8.Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.

Ink cartridges make a slamming sound from left to right and wont print

The encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and try printing the self test. If it slams to the left again, the strip is not yet set correctly.
If you cannot repair the strip, please let us know so that we can assist you further.

Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure. During the troubleshooting, if the strip breaks, you will not be able to use the printer.

Part FELL off!

It sounds like this is the is the position indicator tape. There should be a small hole on both ends of it that fits over a small plastic tab on eich side of the printer. It normally needs to fit in a small **** on the back side of the print carriage.

With the printer turned off & preferably unplugged, gently slide the print carriage to the center of its range of motion. Ensure that this plastic strip is still attached on the opposite end and it feeds through the back of the print carriage. There should be a small tab to attach the free end to similar to what you see on the other end. The strip should be taut but not tight enough to stretch and it should not sag. Exactly where the attach vary somewhat depending on make and model, but they are all similar.

Carrier jam on printer

There could be 4 possibilities.

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.

Error 5100

Dear Scub,

Did you hear a loud crunching sound from the printer before the error code 5100 was displayed?

1. You may need to send in the unit for service. Some Cannon Service offer temporary replacement unit while working on yours.

Checking and do-it-yourself inkjet printer repair is messy.

2. You can try check if the print head assembly (carriage) moves freely from left to right. Lubricate/clean if necessary (If your printer has one) check also the **** strip at the back of the carriage. This is a plastic film with multiple dark notch like mark. Clean with cotton swab and light solvent or isoprophyl alcohol.

If these does not solve your problem, guess your back to # 1.
