The original problem was that the printer would not properly pick up paper, & the jam light came on almost immediately (The paper was bent into a horseshoe, but did not pass the first roller)
I found no stray paper anywhere in the system, but I gave the red lever a few flicks in case the rollers it controlled were sticking.
When I go to print the test sheet now, the "Out of Paper" light comes on.
The printer performs perfectly in manual feed mode.
I had exactly the same problem. It is caused by the paper feed rollers becoming shiny and failing to get a grip on the paper. The cure is easy.
Disconnect the cables, remove the paper tray and turn the printer upside down.
Carefully peel off the two rubber 'tyres' on the ends of the feed roller, turn them inside out, and refit them.
Reassemble the printer and it should work perfectly.
Obviously, you can only do this once......!

Three areas you need to check.1.Pick up area: While pick up roller picking up the paper, delay pick or no pick causes paper jam.. 2.Registration assembly area: Once paper picked from the tray, paper leading edge registered by the paper sensor located under the registration assembly.. In case this sensor dusty malfunction or flag damage, paper wont sense. result paper damage.. 3.Fusing area. If the paper travels up to fuser area, check paper jammed before entering in fuser(Teflon not rotating properly, replace teflon sleeve) or just crossed?(check paper sensors in fuser unit, clean the sensors & check flags, flag springs.
Hi Thanks for using FixYa. Paper jam is a very common problem with the printers.
First of all clean off the rubber piece that pulls the paper into the printer from the tray with rubbing alcohol, and also take a knife to the rubber piece to rough it up to create more traction.
To clear the paper jam problem you need to remove the back roller mechanism to get at paper. If still the problem persists, then check the following to resolve the issue--
1.Please check all interlocks, electrical and signal connections are seated properly. 2.Front cover, back cover and lid are closed properly. 3.Power plug and USB cable are connected. 4.Printer is turned on with switch on the back. 5.Toner signal lights sequenced, with yellow overall led on. 6.There is some noise of paper roller movement. 7.Toner signal lights all out, overall status light turned to red 8.No visible paper in paper tray or anywhere else. 9.No paper in tray---added paper 10.Waste toner container is full or not installed ---empty, installed properly.

First check the machine for paper jams. If not, remove the paper from the paper tray and reinstall it. Then try to print from the MP tray.If this works, check paper size settings on the printer driver, or the small black arm which hangs down next to the paper pick up roller, and is the paper sensor.
Hope this helps you sort out the problem. Please check paper jammed pieces of paper remains from paper in to out paper path. Check if the paper is properly picked-up, else check rubber roller pick-up and the solinoid motors that control to fed on and off the tray to engage pick-up. Check paper path sensors if possible. If you can determine when is the paper Jam happens please advice. Other means you can also refer your manual and machine diagnostic menu which part of the operation the paper will jam.
We've encountered several problem like this. Hope this gives an idea; I understand the cartridge will not moved back to park tray or flash ink tray back and forth because the return pick-up guide were not properly placed into each original position. It will block the ink tray moving back and forth. You can roll back the roller into the original place by removing the back cover if it has, then turn the pick-up roller slowly allowing the roller to turn and backed to its original position. Removed also remains of jammed paper pieces.
