Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

1 Answer

Yamaha RX-V663 - HDMI doesn't work.

Total newbie with problem.

I have 46" Schaub Lorenz LCD (3 wks old), Pioneer DV-410V (2 wks old), and Yamaha RX-V663 (purchased Thursday evening).

RX-V663 does not recognise HDMI connection from DVD (no response,
no GUI(OSD), no HDMI indicator). LCD displays "no signal".

HDMI connection from LCD to DVD works flawlessly (both cables checked).

Have rigged RCA jack from DVD "Audio Out" to Rcvr "CD in", so have
sound from all five speakers whilst playing DVD, but the HDMI connection has me stumped.

Have reviewed all manuals seeking solution without success. I note
the Yamaha manual seems to presume you have a GUI(OSD) to
begin with, and I can't get that far.

Any help would be welcome.

Best regards.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a workaround:

  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Yamaha rx-v663 no video from hdmi out

Unfortunately the most common cause of this is the HDMI transmit IC on the digital board. Sometimes replacing this IC will work, but most of the time you will need to replace the digital board - this is expensive. If you don't have a warranty that is still valid, it may cost more than a new receiver.

Yamaha rx-v663 is there a firmware update to get hdmi 1.4a support ?

Unfortunatly there is not any firmware to upgrade your unit to a higher HDMI format. There is a firmware though that corrects the following symptoms.

1. In case of playback of some DTS-HD Master Audio stream, pop noise may be generated.
2. Test tone may not be output under specific YPAO condition.
3. When test tone is output from presence channel, surround R channel is simultaneously output when speaker settings are PRESENCE SP "EXIST" and SWFR "NONE".
4. Multi channel input setting will be reset after power off the unit, in case of setting "INPUT CH" to "8CH" and "FRONT" to "VCR" or "V-AUX".

Yamaha receiver RX-V663

Make sure you have an analog RCA audio cable from the source to the receiver. Digital coaxial or optical will not work for zone 2 or zone 3. By adding an analog cable it will not affect your main zone, it will always go to digital first. Hope this helps

Cannot get my yamaha rx-v663 to decode DolbyTrueHD audio of get my SBL/SBR speakers to work without turning the bi-amp on.

You should always connect with HDMI when using and decoding HD sound formats. If you use the normal digital option it will use PCM. Also check if your source is set to HD formats via HDMI connections.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Have seen a lot of similar issues here at the site and on the field.

I have posted in your original problem, excerpt below:
Initially, a workaround:
  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Then the non functional HDMI could be attended to at your convenience. Technically, it would appear to the the HDMI signal processor of the receiver.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
