Need expert advice on the above problem - status light is constant red- we unplugged power and reset, tv green light comes on and then shuts off when red status light comes on. No picture at all. I called someone and we tried to get the timer code - we get 1-8 blinks five times. What could be the problem. TV is only3 mo old.

    What is the model number of the unit. If t is only three months old, and with the error code you provided, I thin you have a bad colorwheel. You will have to have an authorized servicer check this. Mitsubishi will not release a colorwheel without and authorized servicer getting authorization from tech support

The colorwheel is your problem. To confirm this, unplug the tv, then listen thru the air vents in the back as you plug the tv in. You will probably hear a ticking sound. If you do, that is the colrwheel. If the colrwheel is working, youwill be able to hear it "spin up". It will be a sudden high pitch whine. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

Turn the tv off, hold down device and menu buttons on the front for 5 seconds, you will get a code flashed out through the LED's.. the codes are as follows:

12   No error detected 22   Recovery from momentary Reset 32   Lamp Cover open 33   Air Filter Cover open 34   Lamp abnormality 35   Chassis Fan failure 36   Exhaust (Back Cover) or Lamp Ballast Fan failure 37   Engine (DMD or Lamp) Fan failure 38   Excess Lamp Temperature 39   Excess DMD Temperature 41   Short Detected 44   DVI Cable (between Chassis and Engine) disconnected

No sound or picture. red timer light on. wd60735

Hi there,

This model as 3 LED indicator lights:

1) Power/Timer 2) Status 3) Lamp

If "STATUS" LED is blinking RED:

1) Internal Fan has stopped. These tv's require fans, to prevent overheating and causing damage.

If "STATUS" LED is solid RED:

1) Circuit failure (short)
2) Disconnected DVI cable, chassis to engine
3) No LAMP-EN signal from Engine to turn the lamp On.
4) Ballast UART communication problem.

If "LAMP" LED is solid RED:

1) Lamp Failure - Lamp failed to turn On.
2) Lamp is broken (e.g. burst or blown)
3) Lamp turns Off during P-ON

There is no data relating to TIMER LED being solid RED.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Scott

TV turned off by itself one day. I pressed reset, timer light blinked green for a minute, then I pressed power and it sounded like it wanted to boot up, but nothing happened and the status light turn

Two thoughts:

First is this is a DLP set and the lamp may have failed

Second is it should have the self check which reads error codes---most of these sets that is the same:

" After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
(then release both)

The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected
This is for a earlier Mitsubishi DLP but should be the same as your set as Mitsubishi rarely changes things like this.
If you get the lamp abnormal it is likely your problem.

Sounds like Mitsu is getting sued left and right about their DLP problems. There is a potential overhaul if you contact their parts department.

The 18 code does not exist. To read the code press device/input button and menu button at the same time on the tv. count the LED flashes 1st digit short pause 2nd digit long pause, repeats.

The red status lamp indicates there is no communication between the format board and the DMD board (light engine). The most common problem for this is capacitors on the Format board that require hours of labor and possibly sending the entire electronics package to Mitsubishi if the caps don't do the trick. Expect a very large bill, contact you local Mitsubishi Authorized repair facility about this, DO NOT take a chance on your corner repair shop to know how to accomplish this.
