SOURCE: Top load Maytag washer about

You might have a sensor problem that prevents the cycle from proceeding.
Most washers have a sensor that detects the water level, thus allowing the selection of Small, Medium and Large loads and the related water level.
Some sensors also use a breather tube, which can become clogged with fluff or debris, causing the same symptom.
Only when the sensor activates, will power be applied to the timer or rotary control unit's little motor, thus causing the cyle to proceed.

Water will not shut off when washer is full on any level setting

There is a tube that goes from a sensor near the bottom of most washers and fits into a fitting near the dial that selects the size of load you will be washing. This tube probably came off of its fitting at one of the ends. Take off the top panel and check behind the dial first. If that looks good you will have to take off at least the front panel of the washer to gain access to the sensor

I NEED INTO GET INTO THE TOP OF THE WASHER TO REPLACE THE OPEN LID KILL SWITCH

You should be able to remove / open the top control panel (rear top) screws and tip it out forward to gain access to the lid switch. Be careful of the small air line that goes to the pressure switch. If that comes unhooked your machine will over fill.
