Question about Apple iPhone 3G

New iPhone 3G, has been "Restore in Progress" for 5 hrs, stalled?

Hi,

I bought the iPhone 3G and plugged it into my iTunes where I had it Restore From Backup so that all my content would be loaded on to the new phone. It's been 5 hours now restoring and I fear it has permanently stalled in the process with 3 bars until finished. What should I do? Wait to see if the final 3 restore bars finally go through (maybe 8 hours later, who knows). Or, should I pull the plug and start this grueling process over again only for it possibly stall again 5 hours from now? It's an 8gig phone, and I am restoring about 4gigs of music and such. Please help. Thank you!

Mine does this sometimes, and I have unplugged it with no problems. and restored it again. it shouldn't take near that long generally at most ten minutes. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Hi, my iPhone 3G is stuck at the apple logo and would reboot over and over again forever! The main problem is that it charges from the wall and charges from my laptops, yes i have two. also i can put it...

hold down the home and power button until you see the plug into itunes symbol. Once that is done start up itunes. then plug you're iphone into your computer via usb. but not until itunes is started. it should prompt you to do a restore.

How to solve if my iphone 3G cannot be on, it stuck at the apple screen?

  • The quickest way to fix your iPhone 3G is to sync it to a different computer. When you do this the computer will recognize it as a new device and install the software on it like it's never been used before, that said everything you have on it is gone. It may take a while so be patient.
  • 2 If step one is successful you can sync it to your computer. It will recognize that it is synced with another computer and ask you if you want to sync it to this one; go ahead and do it. This may take a while too because you will install the applications, songs, data, etc. you had on it before.

WARNING! DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR IPHONE 3G WHILE SYNC IS IN PROGRESS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE STUCK IN RESTORE MODE AGAIN!
  • 3 If steps 1 and 2 did not work or you do not have another computer to sync it with the following steps will help.
  • 4 Backup your music, videos, and applications. Typically it would be the iTunes folder in the My Music folder. This is a precautionary step to the following steps to come, your music should be unaffected but stranger things have happened.
  • 5 Uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, and other Apple component software from your computer. Follow the steps listed on the Apple Support page, "Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP" the link is available in the resources section. Restart your computer when done.
  • 6 To be sure everything is uninstalled completely run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This program removes remnants of uninstalled programs from your registry and deletes files that the uninstall fail to catch. You can download and read more about this program from the Microsoft Help and Support Page, "Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" the link is available in the resources section. Restart your computer.
  • 7 If you have a registry cleanup utility like Registry Mechanic or CCleaner run the program and restart your computer. It is sad to say but the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility may not catch everything so having a secondary cleaner could be essential.
  • 8 Install the latest version of iTunes. Currently iTunes 8 is the latest, it could change tomorrow so download it from Apple.com. Restart your computer.
  • 9 Open iTunes and connect your iPhone 3G. It may take a while for it to recognize the phone, be patient. Once iTunes recognizes your phone it will prompt you to download the latest iPhone software, the current version is 2.1. Follow the installation instructions in the Apple iPhone - Software Update page, the link is available in the resources section.

WARNING! DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR IPHONE 3G WHILE SYNC IS IN PROGRESS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE STUCK IN RESTORE MODE AGAIN!
  • 10 Hopefully these steps helped you recover your iPhone 3G. It is possible that even after a successful recovery your phone may revert back to being stuck. In my experience I was able to save my iPhone 3G from restore mode but when I downloaded the software update it got stuck again, luckily steps 1 and 2 fixed it.

My Iphone has a pass code. Some one tried to get onto the iphone and it is now disable. How do I enable my iphone

    Hi.

To re-enable your handset you need to RESET it from the last computer it was connected to.
Here are the steps to do a force restore on the iPhone and reset the Passcode lock,

    1. Make sure it is unplugged and Turned off

    2. Hold the home button while plugging it into your computer. The iPhone should turn on once plugged into the computer.

    3. Keep holding the Home button until the Connect to iTunes symbol appears on the iPhone

    4. iTunes will say that it has found an iPhone in recovery mode and ask you to restore it.

    5. Restore the iPhone by clicking "Restore" under the iPhone tab

    6. When it is done with the restore, do NOT Restore this iPhone from a backup, instead Set it up as a "New iPhone"
This will erase all your data you have in it though. :(

My iphone 3g wont pass the apple logo when i tried turning it on

You'll need to restore your iPhone. While this may resolve your issue, you may lose data if you've not updated recently. 1. Make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.
    2. Connect iPhone to your computer.
    3. Select iPhone in the iTunes sidebar and click the Summary tab.
    4. Click “Check for Update.” iTunes tells you if there’s a newer version of the iPhone software available.
    5. Click Restore to restore. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.

Got unlocked iphone, tried to restore factory settings now its stuck on bitten pineapple...any help plz just got this phone?

    Hi,
Here u can follow the steps

Step 1: Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. Download iTunes 8.2 from the link given below.
Step 2: Now connect your iPhone with your PC. You must connect it to a single usb port on the backside of your computer. Do not use any usb hub or the ports in the front as this could cause an error during update process.
Step 3: Start iTunes 8.2. Sync your iPhone with your PC so that iTunes backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.
Step 4: You will now have to download a custom cooked firmware for your iPhone version (2G or 3G). I can’t post the download links for these files for the reasons you all know very well. Just Google “iPhone 2G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 2G) or “iPhone 3G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 3G) and use one of the torrent links to download the custom created .ipsw file.
Step 5: Once you have downloaded the required .ipsw file, Copy/Paste it into this location:
    “C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows 7)
    “C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows Vista)
    “C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Update\” (Windows XP)
Step 6: Restart iTunes. You will now be prompted to install this firmware you just download. Just close this prompt dialog by clicking on “x” from the top right-most corner of the window.
    capture.png
Step 7: Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.0 that you just downloaded. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes to get to this screen as shown in the screenshot below:
    capture2_thumb.png
Now press and hold left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.
    2e_thumb.png
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.0. Select the downloaded .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 8: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps some of which are highlighted below:
    asd.pngafasf.pngggg.png
Don’t do anything silly at this point. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.0 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G. iPhone 3G on the hand will only be jailbroken, not unlocked. iPhone 3G users will have to wait for Dev-Team to release ultrasn0w on Cydia in order to unlock their phones.
Step 9: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 3.0 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 3 from iTunes.

Feel free to ask me any question here should you run into any problem during the update process.

Pc screen goes black when iphone connected with itunes running

Hello can you tell me if your iPhone is a 2G or 3G and are you plugging it into a USB 2.0 port?
if it's a 1.0 usb port that could be your problem.
the 3G doesn;t like anything but 2.0 usb and won't work.
the 2G is a little more forgiving.
also, is your phone pwn'd / unlocked
you may need to restore your iPhone and reunlock it.
I can help with that also.
if you wanna hook up on msn or yahoo let me know i will walk ya through it

Where did you purchase your phone? however, you first need to update itunes to 8.0.2, that might solve your problem. Unless you have an unlocked phone then restoring your phone is useless because when you restore an iphone with itunes in the US without an att sim card it will actually lock the phone, but I do not think that is your issue. the two things you are seeing the connect to itunes and the emergency call system means that your phone is not properly activated. which is done by connecting it to itunes.
