Your BB 8830 from Sprint cannot be unlocked for use in the US., but is already unlocked to be used oversees.
Check with Sprint before you hit the road just in case.

The solution for the problem i know for a fact that Sprint/Nextell use a CDMA network and if your unlocking the blackberry to use it on a different network such as Altell, here is a website that can help out with that http://www.blackberryunlocking.com/blackberry/8830_world_edition/unlock_code/

You cannot unlock a Sprint device to be used with a GSM network. Sprint/Verizon/Alltel operates on CDMA. If you have an International SIM card that came with the Sprint phone then you can use it on a per-minute basis sort of like a prepaid phone. You would need to get an AT&T/Vodafone/Rogers/T-Mobile Blackberry World Edition GSM device to use in Africa. Just make sure that you are on the 900/1800MHz frequency for GSM Networks.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
Here's a link to this great service
