Question about HP Pavilion zd7000 zx5000 zv5000 presario 3000,R3000 Series 120W Laptop AC Adapter-360699-001 CD-ROM Drive
Verified power supply cable and battery came out good (troubleshooting).
Removed battery and waited about 30 min and connected directly to ac wall plug, no luck. Power button turn on for a few seconds and then shut off. Display is black always and no noise coming out of the fans.
Removed & reseats ram memory card (1gb) and without battery reinstalled plugged it to ac connection, no luck either.
Heard there was a service alert by HP about this problem, can´t find any web site to verify it. (not on hp.com) It is true there is a class action because of this problem? Please inform web site of plaintiffs´ attorney.
Don't try again and again,,, if not running well protection circuit will turn off. therefore test for short circuit, need to remove unwanted parts and try, also need to test the circuit for short circuit with multi meter.
specially mosfets need to check.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Do you have Vista? If so, you should contact HP directly. I had the same problem which occured 3 months after my warranty ran out. I called HP and was told(after they tried to sell me another laptop) that I installed the wrong antivirus program but since I never used my warranty, they would do me a BIG favor and fix it for free. I then waited 14 days for my new laptop and was very happy when it was returned only to find out 3 months later that there is a RECALL for HP laptops with the Vista program that was a MANUFACTURERS defect. THEY HAVE TO FIX IT AND FOR FREE!!!!! I hope this helps you. Good luck.

I had a similar though somewhat different problem. My zd7000 was plugged in but it was oscillating between charging the battery and running from the battery. In the past I'd adjust the jack position and life was good - this time nothing mattered. I turned the laptop off and noticed that the charge light came on and stayed on - I guessed something was freaky with the battery so I switched to my spare - the charger light came on, I turned on the power I had a brief power on followed by zzzzttt then everything died. I could smell the stench of electrical burning. I disassemble the whole laptop and removed the motherboard - the back of the power jack is burned. A new jack is $10.
If I had to guess, I"d guess you have a bad jack. I've seen offers to repair this on the net for $100. If the offer is legit, I'd rather pay the bucks - theres only 5 billion screws in the laptop - plus the risk of static discharge damaging to boards or the pain of getting the processor heat sink out without damaging the processor and then getting heat conducting "grease" between the processor and the heat sink when you put it all back together again. I figured my unit was dead anyway, might as well see if I could find the issue. Now I need to get a new jack - and see if I can get it all back together again...

SOURCE: hi, hp pavillion zx5000 will
I would try the following steps, then contact HP (if these don't work, chances are it's hardware related).
1) Remove the battery and power cable. 2) Hold down the power button for 3 seconds. 3) Reattach the power cable and battery. 4) Try to boot again.
