Your TV's CRT has three deflection coils which are deflecting coils. These coils are(in layman terms) responsible for mixing of appropriate amount of color on the screen. Now over a period of time two things may happen:-
1. Dirt accumulates in the contacts of the connections of your TV's circuitry. This can be easily solved for just cleaning your TV internal circuitry with a brush and/or IPA
2. The deflection mechanism has gone bad and hence it need to be repaired.
I believe Sony has a very very high quality of workmanship so the 2nd possibility is very remote. But in any case you must remember that carrying out these procedures need utmost care and only a qualified technician should do as the voltages inside can be fatal. I recommend you consult with a qualified technician for carrying out above procedures.
Please rate me if you are satisfied with my answer and get back to me if any clarification required.

Crt is the part of the tv which adjusts the colours in the tv.if that goes bad then its necessary to replace the crt as it damages the colour quality of the tv. and yes it is worth reparing.as this is common problem which gets solved easily and the tv works properly after that.but manually replacing the part is not very easy as the technician help is much advisable. u can get the required parts at www.partstore.com thanks.
