AT&T 1739 answering machine shuts off after the beep but before the caller can record

We have a brand new machine but it shuts off after the beep, before a recorded message can be made by the caller. We have follwoed the setup directions to a T. Could it be our AT&T service?
Thanks.

SOURCE: No message recorded. Static when in use.

It sounds like you have damage to an internal component of your phone.

HERE is a link to the manual, if needed.

have you checked its memory yet? because, When the memory is full, some messages must be deleted before new messages can be recorded. When the memory is full, or when 99 messages have been recorded, F flashes in the message window. Press and hold DELETE. The system announces "Messages deleted" and permanently deletes all messages. The message window displays 0.

If there are unreviewed messages, the system will play an error tone and will not delete any messages

If I get this AT&T 1739 answering machine will it retreive messages when I am on the phone with someone else, also can I record my own message on it for my business

Without call waiting or a second line, callers will get a busy signal if you're already on a call. This happens at the switchboard; it doesn't matter what type of answering machine you have because the second call doesn't get that far.
You can record your own message on the 1739 but, as mentioned above, if you're already on a call then the second call never gets that far.

How to change announcement ?

Before using this answering system, you

choose not to record an announcement,
the system answers with a prerecorded

message after the tone.”
1 Press and hold "ANNC/SKIP" . The system
beeps. Speak toward the microphone
normally, from about nine inches away.
While you are recording, the Message
Window displays —.

your announcement.
To review your announcement, press
and release "ANNC/SKIP".
