Question about Sony KV-27S40 27" TV

1 Answer

My sony KV-27S40 tv does not output sound. I have checked my TV Speakers (on) as well as the stereo system through which I normally send sound signal. When I change channels the code SAP appears on screen temporarily with the new channel number. I do not recall seeing the SAP code in the past. Is this a function that has been turned on accidentally, and which blocks sound output signal? Other suggestions?

Make sure the sap is turned off. When turned on only a sap audio signal will appear at outputs. If no sap signal you have silence.

SOURCE: SONY TV MODEL kv-27s40 BLINKING RED LIGHT 2 BLINKS

The 2 blinks usually mea an over current problem. Perhaps the most common cause of this is a shortde Horizontal Output Transistor (HOT). If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. Realize that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged. Look for a 3-legged ransistor attached to a heatsink close to the flyback (part with large red wire coming out the top). The part will be marked C5438 or something similar. Post that marking here nad I'll confirm the entire part number.

YOUR CRT (PICTURE TUBE ) IS GOING BAD . this is the most common way a sony tv crt fails . the tv is to old to make it worth a crt . but if your handy and carefull there is a way to get a little more time out of it . start with the tv cold , remove the back and look on the little board connected to the neck of the crt . there is a control marked "SCREEN " plug in the tv and cable and start it , with it flashing adjust that control , one way will make it flash more and one way less , adjust this no more than you need to , just enough to stop the flashing .NO MORE ! just be carefull the voltages in a tv can KILL . dont touch anything else in there and use a little inslated screwdriver to make the adjustment good luck .... if this answer helped please leave me 4 stars rateing , this high rateing will keep me in the paid answer department , thank you

I connected my Sony stereo system to the philips

Make sure you turn the tv audio outputs on, use the menu on the tv to do this. Make sure you connect the audio out of the tv to the audio in on the stereo system.

Sound

You should be able to do so through the menu on the TV. Look for a "MENU" button of some sort on the TV/Remote, then scroll through the settings.

Just bought a Sony KV-27ts20 second hand. Great

There might be another solution beside the trash can. You see often with audio problem the fault is the audio output i.c that is gone. Also in the tv menu you may have speaker on/off, make sure they are on. If it still doesn`t work then you may want to try the audio out connectors at the back of the set, there may be sound there. What you`ll need is and audio system with aux/cd/tape input and a rca/phono stereo cable. Just connect the tv out to any free input and turn up the volume .
By the way the tv audio out may be variable(option in the audio menu) which means that any amplified speakers(computer speakers) could be used as long as you have rca connectors on the end of it.
Hope this will help. Good luck

Component Video Connection

what you have done is you are sending a component video signal from your system to your tv and the sound i assume comes through the 5.1 surrond speakers. The DVD's you play the sound would naturally come from the 5.1 surround speakers, unless your instruct the dvd player to send the sound to the tv in which case will only be played as stereo. you will need inputs on your dav system to take sound from your tv outputs or digital box by way of red and white phono leads or a digital/optical input if you have them; so as to play the sound from cable tv or sattelite tv through your 5.1 surround speakers.

Speakers on Sony KV-36FS100

if you could find replacement speakers for this unit, which is probably not an easy task in itself, it would take some know-how and safety measures before you could likely do this yourself. Televsisions deal with Extremely high voltages internally and if you do not know what not to touch, you could find yourself very injured in no time at all... better bet is to simply purchase a small stereo of some sort that allows aux inputs and use this for your speakers instead of the tv speakers. probably cheaper than buying a tv, and hey, may even be worth the upgrade to a surround system of sorts...
