Question about Cell Phones

6 Answers

I own a Palm Centro. Initially I had no problems hotsyncing from my pc to the centro. Now the hotsync process while indicating in the log everything is ok (There are errors report on expansion card that I don't have) the pc does not pick up new information. I reloaded Palm Software that came with Centro, and all I have is blank calendar and no other information. Any suggestions.

I followed advice and updated software. Update was successful BUT the same problem persists.
The pc will not sync information from Plam Centro.

THe sync log indicates everything is ok except
    Install to Card synchroniztion failed
    Voice Memo synchronization failed

    Any further suggestions.
    Thank you

Apart from the fact i am not sure if there is a hold over from old software (even if I knew how to check, I am not sure if i would know) the download seemed to indicate it repaced all of old.

I am still stuck. My addresses are ok, I think, just the nothing appears on the pc calendar. A bit frustrating.........

It is NOT the hand held it is the pc that won't take the calendar information. Please note I am set to sync woth the desk top NOT Outlook. I have run through the advice from Palm...which wanders around the issue.

If I hard sync I will LOSE all my data. I can't do that. The pc is the problem.

I agree that this is a software issue and a firmware / client upgrade should fix this... Alternatively, you can download a Linux Live CD like Ubuntu 8.10 and see if it works with your PDA and should SYNC data correctly. If it can do everything fine in Linux, this tells you that your device is fine and that it is a Windows / Plam Centro Software issue.

Try to plug your device to a different computer and install the palm software there. Check if that helps. You can try reset the palm back to factory defaults. Also firmware update to specific version can fix it.

Try to reset to factroy setting...

You might want to try a hard reset. Here’s how.
1. Remove the battery from the rear of the unit.
2. Hold down the power button while reinserting the battery.
3. When the Palm logo appears, release the power button.
4. Press the Up button to complete the hard reset and erase all data on the Centro.

Palm centro trying to synch without being connected to PC

Hello brad_bork,

Make sure bluetooth is turned off and the usb cable is not connected. Then do the following:

•Tap the hotsync icon
•Notice the words 'Local | Modem' side by side on the screen
•Tap 'Modem'
•Select 'Standard Modem' in drop-down list
•Enter any phone number (eg. 800-525-6452 *this is a non-working number)
•Press the Home button

Now hotsync should stop trying to sync automatically. When you want to run a hotsync Tap on 'Local' in the hotsync screen.

Finally go my Palm Centro to turn on...all my data is gone

need to resync your phone to your computer. the settings and info you had before will be saved there. if you never hotsynced your phone to your computer before this, you're outta luck and you gotta do it the old fashioned way, retype everything back in.

Centro hotsyncs over and over and wont stop

okay so heres the deal on palm centro's. the battery and data port on the bottom is EXTREMELY susceptible to moisture damage. any amount of humidity or moisture will wick right into the data port and cause oxidation which is conductive, this is giving it the false hotsync reading. to fix this take the battery out and put a VERY SMALL amount of alchohol on the tip of a toothbrush and scrub the **** out of the prongs..... be carefull as if you use too much you will end up getting alchohol stuck in the coil and it will ruin it when you power it up. what you need to do is make sure its a fresh toothbrush and a little alchohol (almost dry) and after scrubbing the prongs blow dry them with a hair dryer for a while being sure not to heat up the phone too much! after that leave it set for an hour which should be enough for any amount of alchohol to clear!

if this doesnt work you have two options:

1> call in the insurance

2> order a replacement port and resoldier it on!

hope this helps
