Computer Shuts Down Randomly

My inspiron 1501 notebook started shutting down randomly without warning. Initially, it happened once every few weeks. Now it happens at least once an hour... What should I do? My warranty expired 2 months ago... Thanks!

Bloody Dells. Mine does exactly the same thing. Usually when running Flash or Video.

Obviously the fan is faulty or not powerful enough on this particular laptop.

Its always overheating and this makes it sluggish. I'm tempted to underclock it, so that it stops overheating..

UNDERCLOCK? This is a ridiculous situation

Is the fan running.... check how hot it is on the bottom.... could very likely be thermal shut down... if it gets to hot it shuts down before there is any damage.... see if you can remove the shield around the fan and clean out the dust and dirt and in my case cat hair. if you can't figure out how to get the cover off let me know... i should be able to find the service manual for you

Getting the cover off is easy I just had to do it.. all the screws on the bottom need to come off and also the 2 in the back.. once that is done pop off the clip cover where the power button is.. there are 2 screws for the keyboard.. remove those then there are snap connections for the wireless card on the right and then the graphics card connections pulls straight up.. there are two screws on the front holding in the screen.. once that is removed the top cover pops off... to get all the dirt and dust out you want to remove the heat sink but make sure you have thermal compound to put back on your processor.. the radiator for the heat sink on mine had black dust.. that was from 3 years.. I just put it back together and it is running fine at the moment I will post again later if there are any issues.. but they are easy to work on.. *** inspiron 1501*** Have a good one guys!!

Laptop randomly shuts down

This problem might be occur due to old BIOS version installed on the laptop.
If your system shut down unexpectedly within 10-20 minutes while playing games or scanning the system which takes high cpu usages then the problem is of BIOS and try to install the new BIOS version.
for that visit the site of your laptop company.

Inspiron 1100--fan has recently started running often & long. Computer gets very warm to the touch & runs very slowly. Shuts down randomly--during virus scans, disk clean ups, etc

sounds like the heat exchanger is clogged. Try using canned air blowing in both the air intake and exhaust to unclog the heatsink and also make sure the system has the most current BIOS version.

Dell Laptop shuts off

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter to the laptop. See if it still shuts off on you at random.

If it still does then try another AC Adapter and if it still shuts down randomly then it might be a motherboard issue.

Take a can of air and blow it into the air vents on your laptop. This will remove any dust or debris that might be affecting air flow.

If that doesn't do it then the only other thing to try would be to take apart the laptop and where the heatsink sits on top of the CPU, take the heatsink off and make sure there is no dirt or dust buildup on it. If there is buildup on there that would cause the laptop to shut down without warning cause that means its not cooling like normal.

At this point if you went thru all of this and you still get shutdowns then the motherboard is bad

Computer Randomly Cuts off

processor overheating. When it gets too hot it automatically shuts your pc down and boots it back up. Even if the fan is running, it could not be supplying enough cool air anymore.

Dell Inspiron 1501 random freeze

If you can take the unit apart, check the LVDS cable from the mother board to the Formatter/T-con assy. a good cleaning with alcohol should work.

Have a look at your power settings
Start -> settings -> control panel -> power” settings” (don’t remember the English word)
Here are your settings for with or without the power supply.
