Gps map 162 fails badly on exhibiting location

I purchased by gps 162 at West Marine in Port Huron Michigan about 4 years ago. I sold the boat and all the equipment to my nephew who sails it over in Lake Ontario. Storing it for the winter, the antenna which was hooked up on to a stern rail was struck by a gate pole as we drove through. It knocked the antenna underneath the rail but suffered no apparent damage at the time. First, the gps gave readings which were out as much as 5 miles. Now it is not showing any Lat or Lon readings, speed and several others. It also shows a message but I can't remember at this time what it read. I have encountered several sites that show other owners having similar difficulties.
We need to know whether or not the antenna might be kaput or do we need to send the entire unit for repair. Is their a Canadian location here in South Western Ontario that does repairs. Incidentally I am on the way to Florida on Jan 1 or 2 and wondered if their is anywhere there where repairs are carried out.
Finally, if all else fails I guess he (nephew) might have to send it back to the factory.
My nephew's email is bradmadore@hotmail.com

You will need to get the Canadian Bluechart Card also. At this time Garmin doesn't pre-load the units with Canadian Charts. Maybe in the future. Here is a link to the card you will need.

Go into your gps settings in the menu and then select "Initilize GPS". That will basically reset your GPS and it should find your location. It can take up to five minutes so initilize it and crack open a cold one. when you get back your location should be on the screen.
