My xbox 360 occasionaly reads games as dvds

If oyu have had it for a long time or its old the laser on the DVD drives eventually burn out from too much use. The games require a more precise laser to read it while DVDs are easier to read.

If you have a original xbox game try that. If it works it must be the laser.

The laser in your XBox 360 is probably going out. When lasers start to fail, the first discs that stop reading are newer, dual layer, discs. Single layer discs will still read. As the laser wears out, single layer DVDs will stop reading but CDs will continue to read. Eventually, everything will stop reading and the laser will die.

You can find lasers for the XBox 360 all over the internet. Installing them isn't easy though.

You either have a bad limit switch on the tray assy, or the limit may need to be adjusted.

im having same problem and my brothers xbox 360 too. we think its because the laser is way to low

Sounds obviouse but have u tried just running a laser cleaning disk? always start simple :)

have you tried cleaning your Disc.

buy a new one

try calling microsoft again...and if no luck...then you might have to find a replacement cd drive...you can probably get one off of ebay.
