I have a 4th generation 16 GB iPod Nano and I am having similar problems. It says that "iPod Cannot be synced. Does not have required folder." We installed all the newest versions on the iPod and on our computer but it still won't work. We even went and got a new one.

Try this.

  1. Put the iPod into disk mode by holding the menu and middle keys together until the screen turns dark.
  2. Then quickly hold both he middle button and play/pause buttons until the iPod shows a check mark and the words disk mode at the top.
  3. ThenClick on iTunes to open it.
  4. Connect the iPod to the computer. You may have to do a restore depending on what iTunes says you need to do.
If this doesn't work, check the bottom of the ipod where you connect the cable. See if there are any bent pins. These are very fragile and can be damaged if you insert or pull the cable out the wrong way. Hope that helps.

Unlock an iPod Model A1199
Although the second generation iPod Nano (also known as 2G) uses a four-digit pass code that prevents unauthorized access to your iPod by locking the screen, you can also unlock the device by plugging it into your computer's USB 2.0 port.
When the 2G iPod Nano is connected to the computer it is synchronized, and automatically unlocks the screen according to the official Apple site.
In order to successfully unlock the Nano it must be plugged into the primary computer used for synchronizing content.

Click "Start," "All Programs" and "iTunes" on your PC's desktop, or click "iTunes" on the Macintosh's desktop dock.
Plug the iPod Nano's cable into the docking port on the iPod Nano.
Plug the other end into the USB port on the computer to open iTunes.
Click "Controls" at the top of the iTunes' menu, and select "Eject iPod."
The iPod Nano's screen will be unlocked once it is ejected from your computer.

Unlock an iPod Nano Code
With the latest iPod Nano model, you can set a four-digit code and lock all intruders from accessing your iPod.
In order to use the device's functions again, you need to enter the correct code.
However, if you happen to lose or forget the code, you will need to find another way to unlock your iPod Nano.

Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod Nano.
Plug the other end of the USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC computer.
Open the iTunes program by using the Dock on a Mac or the Start menu on a PC.
Select your iPod Nano from the "Devices" list in the main iTunes window.
Click on the "Sync" button to make a connection between your computer and your iPod Nano.
Click on the "Eject" symbol once the syncing process is complete.
Remove your iPod Nano from the USB cable.
The iPod's lock code will now be reset and you will be able to access all features again.
Navigate to the "Screen Lock" option in the iPod menu to lock your iPod's screen again.
Since your iPod's lock code was just reset, you will be prompted to select a new four-digit code.

How do i unlock my 2nd generation apple ipod w/ my laptop?

Thank your for contacting FixYa Support.

In order to effectively unlock your iPod, you will have to perform these actions:
1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize.

By synchronizing your iPod Nano with iTunes, iTunes will restore your iPod Nano with data from the last time you synced your iPod.

This is the only way to effectively unlock your iPod Nano.

I hope this information proves helpful for you.

2. Open iTunes and sync the iPod as normal.
3. Remove the iPod, following the normal removal procedure. The iPod unlocks automatically as you remove it.

Ipod nano problem

When you connected the iPod it was most likely in automatic sync mode which caused it to sync to your computer. When you restored the iPod you wiped the content out of the iPod. You will have to regather the music and podcasts you wanted at this point. I recommend creating a back up in your computer this time though. Just in case it should happen again.
