Gould Water pump Problem

My daughter has a Gould water pump (Jet) and recently it has been making a very strange on and off (or up and down noise) whereby the PSI Gauge goes from 0 to 40 or 50 PSI - fluxuates.

She also has a UV filtration system attached to the Pump system and we noticed a small leak (Maybe this is the problem....not sure).

Can you give me an idea what to look for or how to fix this problem without calling the Pump company.

Thank you

During the bad weather and we had no electricity,i suspected my 1hp goulds pump was submerge during the flood . And when there was electricity already, i waited for it to dry before turning on the switch. However, when i turned on the switch, a sound burst as if it shorted and smoke came off. Do you think the motor was damaged or is it protected by an overload switch that even if it smoked the motor will not be affected?

Sounds like cavitation in the pump due to the introduction of air. Check for leaks or cracks in the suction line so air isnt being induced into the pump.

I have a submersible Gould pump in a well. Recently air is getting into my system and coming out as irregular spurts. I replaced the water storage tank and the check valve, and the problem persists

Sounds like pump is not set deep enough and getting air. If the pump is as deep as it can go you may have to have to screen in the well changed or cleaned with acid pellets.

Gould water pump not comming on

Check for power to the pump then check again after the built in pressure switch. You can get the manual from Flotec at:

If the motor buzzes then there is probably a bad start capacitor.

Gould 1/2hp submergible well pump cycles on and off constantly. low to no water pressure .The pressure switch remains in the closed position. Power to pump side of pressure switch good. pump runs 15...

My first thought was that of a water logged tank which causes short cycling, from your notes the tank is good (the tank may be partially water logged though) If the tank is ok and your getting short cycling (and the switch is good) I would guess your check valve down the well has failed. As the pump creates pressure then shuts off the water may be going right back down the well causing the pump to cycle again. This could also account for the poor water pressure as the check valve may be stuck slightly open allowing the system to loose pressure but only allowing a small amount of flow by when running. There could be a leak within the pumps drop-pipe and your loosing pressure through this leak. I expect you'll have to have the pump pulled.
I hope this may have helped,
