Question about Panasonic Workio DP-1820E Copier

2 Answers

Black streaks (in direction of paper travel)... They come & go and vary in length and thickness. One or two always seem to show up in the same place though. Looks like what I've seen on other machines that use organic drums and have dirty charge wires or a malfunctioning grid/scorotron. I've cleaned and then replaced the corona unit in the past but black streaks still come back in the short term. I also cleaned the contacts on the back end of the drum modual. Oh! This is not a fuser roller issue.

Nope! That's Not It!!! Thanks a whole bunch though swan34. I replaced it two times already and no change. I'm sorry I didn't think to mention that in my 1st post but, this issue has me soo upset I can't think straight some times... What To Do??... What To Do??? Sniff...

I did have a bit of a brainstorm this morning... I went 'oldschool' on the thing (guess that means I engaged my brain) and started pondering "corona current"/"grid voltage" control... Maybe charge is just too low! Any body got a clue re adjustability. Back in my day (I got started when machines still used coated paper...) corona wire position and/or charge current was adjustable. Of course in those pre-laser exposure systems, low charge rendered as white streaks where in these laser driven puppies low charge looks like black streaks, yes? I'm gonna go try and find a svc mnl for this beast.

    Thanks Again swan34 !!!

This model is NOTORIOUS for not being able to handle the amount of toner in the cleaning unit due to it's location (over the drum...wtf!). When you start seeing those lines...not real sharp but rather a "burn" looking line...it's usually time to pull the drum out and clean out the cleaner unit. Make sure the mylar strip under the cleaning blade is not folded or bent back. Just run your finger over the mylar strip several times at the base where it is mounted, and the heat from the friction will tend to straighten it back out again!

adjust your thickness guage as card stock is 3 or 4 times thicker than a 20lb plain paper stock. Here is link to a helpful media guide for HP printers.

Clean the optical mirrors on the scanning side and also remove the drum and clean a mirror beneath. Check also the drum condition and replace if necessary.

Mita DC-1860 horizontal streaks after new drum

You say 'horizontal", but I imagine your paper is actually travelling 'laterally' or or sideways through the machine right? That means that the lines are actually running vertically based on the paper direction.

Is that 2" wide line visible on your drum?
Drum cleaning blade has likely failed....it should ALWAYS be replaced with a new drum.

Horz. streak approx.3/4 down on each page I print

Sounds like some of the magenta toner is left behind on the drum. The only way to fix it is to get a new cartridge.

Black streaks on copies from bypass tray and tray w/thick paper

Most likely you may of had a toner spill awhile ago and the toner may be biult up with in the paper path and it is draging in it. Also, it may have to do with the drum pick off claw unit. The paper may be rubbing against the unit with thicker paper. I would have your service person clean the whole paper path of lose toner and if they can bring another drum unit to test if the problem is in the drum unit it self. Good Luck

Black smudges on printed page

Are you sure this is a Designjet 450 (large format printer) and not a Deskjet 450 (portable printer)? The following assumes you have wispy black streaking on the printed side of the paper. If the streaking is on the back side then post more details of the printer model and the issue.

In either case the most likely cause is a buildup of fibers on the underside of the printheads or carriage, causing wisps of black ink to be dragged on the paper when the carriage reverses direction. You can clean the printer as shown at the following (though the details will be somewhat different for the Designjet or Deskjet....).

Problem with copier

Drum blade worn out, dirty carona/charge roller or damaged upper heat roller are the main probabilities, Not sure what you mean by platen on a copier, What colour are the steaks? Are they always the same? Do they move? Are you using a doc feeder or placing on copyglass? Are the streaks traveling in the same direction as the paper or across it? These answers will point the way to identifi your problem.
