My Icemaker isn't working. What can I check to see if I can getting it going?

Ok, thanks for model #.

1st I'd check and make sure you're getting water to fridge by trying to dispense water from the water dispenser. (You've probably already tried this but just want to cover everything.) If it dispenses water, great, go to the next test.

Next: There is a plastic fill tube that allows water to flow to the ice maker, You should be able to see it easily because it is connected directly to the ice maker. You shouldn't have to remove anything except maybe the ice bucket so you can see the ice maker and fill tube. Take a strong flashlight and shine it on the "fill tube". You're looking for ice blockage. Even if you don't see any ice blockage take a screw driver and stick it into the tube to see if you feel any blockage. You should be able to get about 3 inches in without any resistance. This test actually tells us a lot. If you have ice blockage you must defrost it all completely (I use a hair dryer). Note: If you have ice blockage you MUST replace the water valve (blue in color and I'll include part # at end) located behind the BIG metal kick-plate behind refrigerator at bottom. The reason is this, the water valve isn't closing all the way and allowing water to slowly drip into the ice maker and freeze in the fill tube. If you don't replace the problem will occur again within a month.

Now, if you found no ice blockage then you'll need to replace the ice maker (Part# below). Easy to replace, 2 screws (usually phillips).

Water valve pt# WR57X10029

Ice Maker pt# IM6D (this is a kit, you'll only need ice maker from kit - I always suggest the kit because it cost just a little bit more but includes an electrical adapter you may need)

You can purchase parts from above parts here,
Appliance Parts

To anyone else who has same problem but with maybe a different brand refrigerator the concept is the same. To find your parts you can go to the link I provided and enter your model # (or at least the first 5 digits of your model number on the "top-right" side of parts website to see a complete parts break down of your refrigerator.

Thanks and good luck!!

No ice in the ice maker

Hi,

Initially, pls check for water in the IN connector, thereafter, follow the route, check the filter, the plastic tubing leading to the ice maker (check for kinks or blockage). If your model has water dispenser, check if that too has not water.

Dp post back with the model numbers.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Water dispenser stop working

For water not dispensing problem:----------

There possibility is ice blockage in the water fill tube. There is a tube from which the water runs and enters the water dispenser. If this tube is blocked then water will not flow, when you depress the water dispenser paddle. The tube needs to be defrosted, by using hair dryer. This procedure melts the ice collected in the tube and water starts running again. But if water fill tube is completely clear and no ice blockage or any other blockage. Then other possibility is water valve .This water valve is for letting the water. The main water valve the back of the fridge section. This main valve lets the water enter the refrigerator. This water valve is a twin valve. This valve has two tubes in it.One for water dispenser and one for ice maker chamber. The one side of valve is working, but other side of the valve is not working. The valve is got stuck in one position, so ice maker side is working, but water dispenser side is not working.--------

The valve is not a costly part and can be easily replaced.-----------------

then You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.

I have a side by side refrigerator and ice maker will not produce ice anymore

Ice maker stopped making ice. For this problem you have check few things. First thing, is the water filling in the ice maker chamber and then ice maker not making ice? Or, the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber so it's not making ice. If the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber then it's clear that ice is not getting made due to no water in the chamber. For no water filling, the problem is either water supply valve turned off so water is not filling. Turn on the water supply and it will fill. But if the water supply is turned on then the other possibility is ice blockage in the water fill tube. There is a tube from which the water runs and enters the ice maker chamber. If this tube is blocked then water will not enter the chamber. The tube needs to be defrosted, by using hair dryer. This procedure melts the ice collected in the tube and water starts running again. But if water fill tube is completely clear and no ice blockage or any other blockage. Then other possibility is water valve at the back of ice maker unit. This water valve is for letting the water in the ice maker. The water valve open only for 7 seconds and in this time the water fills in the ice maker chamber and then water valve closes and the same procedure runs again in the next water filling cycle.------- For your information I will mention that there are two valves. One is the main valve the back of the fridge section. This main valve lets the water enter the refrigerator and other valve is at the back of ice-maker section. This other valve lets the water to enter the ice maker. In most of the cases the fault is water valve at the back of ice maker section. ------------- The other above possibilities which I gave you is water not filling in ice-maker chamber so it's not making ice. But now consider that water is filling in ice maker chamber but it's still not making ice. Then the problem is ice maker unit itself. This unit is controlled by main board. But in most cases if water is filling the ice maker but it's not making ice then its faulty ice maker unit. So see if the problem is water not entering the ice maker then the water fill tube is frosted by ice or the water valve at the back of ice maker is faulty. Replace the valve. ------------

Ice maker stopped working

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker . After freezing , it dumps , replace the dual water inlet valve behind the refrig . If it does not dump the cubes , check that the coils are clean under the refrig at the bottom in front , and if they are and the freezer seems to cool good , then replace the ice maker . NOTE : If the ice maker dumps and not refil with water , replace the valve AND check the tube which fills the ice maker inside , to make sure ice has not frozen inside the tube , which also indicates a bad water valve ( seeps ( not closing completely )) .
