Are the engine cors still intact if the block has cracked its a new engine if its just the pump its a new pump should not have poured cold water into a red hot engine that alone could crack the block or cylinder head i would take it to a garage to get it checked

SOURCE: Saab 9.3 convertible Water into the storage of the top

Yes there are two drain hoses and one or both are most likely clogged. Check the bottom fist - they drain to the side of the car and you can see them just peeking out beneath the moulding/rocker panels just fore of the two rear wheels.

SOURCE: 2003 Saab 9-5 Check Engine Light

Take the car to Autozone, they will read the codes via OBD II for free.  Other parts stores may have the same policy ... call first.   My VW dealer charges $40 to pull the codes!!   I bought a low-end OBD II reader for $50, as the wife and I  both have VWs.

White smoke is usually antifreeze, the most frequent cause of this is head gasket blown or cracked head ... big bucks.  Hopefully this is not you.  Unless the car had a dramatic overheating incident, for most makes of cars, this should not happen until you have over 100K miles, probably closer to 200K.
White smoke could also be break fluid sucked in from power brake booster.  If it's brake fluid, it will smell very bad.
On cold days, when the car first starts, white smoke can just be normal condensation in the tailpipe ... if it happens after the car is warmed up ... it's something else.
Check your coolant overflow tank level ... if it's very low or empty ... put water in (don't bother with antifreeze yet in case you are burning it up in the engine).
Good luck, ..ajm

SOURCE: how do I replace my 2004 Saab 9 3 linear's water pump.

Re : the computer , they better cover it under warranty or they ****.
Re : the water pump , you have a leak and they say it is the water pump , I have no reason to doubt that they have honestly checked out the problem and determined that a new water pump is the only solution but , damn $ 1000 is pretty steep. I would look around for another mechanic for a second opinion and a quote. Avoid dealerships. Not sure what engine you have but i just looked in my saab with a 2.3 and hope I never have to do mine. I am pretty good with a wrench but I know there would be lots of swearing involved.

A better question: how long will synthetic engine oil protect the engine? I don't put a lot of mile on the Saab 9-3, 1999.

You need to change the oil every year or 10.000 miles. The oil will be polluted with foreign material like water, sulpur etc.

Possibility of a cracked block. how can i be sure/

Vehicles: Any with the above symptoms

A cracked cylinder block will cause either:
(a) motor oil contamination of engine coolant
(b) coolant contamination of motor oil
(c) white exhaust smoke, due to coolant seeping into one or more cylinders.
(d) more than one of the above
(e) all of the above

Oil infiltrating into coolant is easy to see - drain some coolant out through the pepcock at the bottom of the radiator, and place it into a styrofoam coffee cup. Oil droplets floating on top of the green (or orange) coolant are easily seen. Or visualize oil by looking into the top of the radiator through the radiator cap.
Coolant infiltrating into and mixing with motor oil will permanently damage the engine (seizing it up through loss of lubrication), and must be prevented.
A leak from above the front suspension is, as physicians like to put it, "nonspecific", with the most likely cause a water pump seal or hose/hose connection.
A leak from near the fire wall will usually be a heater core hose, or hose connection.
A coolant leak on the same side of the engine as the water pump is a leaking water pump or water pump seal until proven otherwise.

To rule out everythng else, here's the 1999 Honda CR-V Troubleshooting Guide for Coolant Loss/Coolant Leaking:

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Water Pump - Worn, Cracked or Leaking Water Pump, or Water Pump gasket.
2 Inspect Head Gasket - Leaking Head Gasket.
3 Inspect Radiator - Leaking Radiator Hose(s).
4 Inspect Radiator Cap - Worn or Damaged Radiator Cap.
5 Inspect Radiator Hose - Ruptured, Cracked or Leaking Radiator Hose.
6 Inspect Freeze Plug - Leaking Freeze Plug(s).
7 Inspect Intake Manifold Gasket - Leaking, Worn, or Damaged Intake Manifold Gasket.
8 Inspect Water Outlet - Cracked, Leaking or Damaged Water Outlet.
9 Inspect Heater Control Valve - Leaking or Faulty Heater Control Valve.
10 Inspect Radiator Drain Pepcock - Loose, Damaged, or Faulty Radiator Drain Pepcock, or Pepcock O-ring.
11 Inspect Engine (DOMESTIC ONLY) - Cracked Cylinder Block Leaking Coolant into at least one Cylinder, causing white exhaust smoke.

Saab 199 9-5 SE with 89000 miles. When do i take it in for timing belt work?

Now is a very good time to do it.. Better to do it early than too late. The biggest thing about a belt is, You don't know when it is going to break. Be sure to have any related work, parts replaced at the same time, ie tensionser assy, water pump,. It just saves you money down the road.

How do i replace the water pump on my 1999 pontiac grand am?

I'm pretty sure the water pump on your car is buried in the block, making it very difficult to replace. You might get a Chilton or Haynes manual and follow procedures. That should get you where you need to be.. If you had a Ford there would be no problems.... ok.. just kidding. Good luck.

My SAAB 9-5 2.3 Automatic (V Reg) cuts out at low speed

Take a look at the accessories belt.... does the battery and/or check engine light's on? This belt activates water pump (check temperature gage...), power steering pump (heavy steering...), a/c compressor (a/c working?) and alternator (battery recharging)... of course!

Hope it will help you, even if my english isn't terrible...
