I had the same problem and just figured it out. Firstly, BSS won't work if NR is set to on. Turn it off and that should work.

Secondly, Continuous mode can not be shot in the RAW or HI image settings. Set the camera to one of the lower settings and give that a try. If that doesn't work, follow the instructions for updating to the latest firmware here:

http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=685&p_sid=seR*HFnj&p_lva=13783&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NjIwLDYyMCZwX3Byb2RzPTEmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTEuMSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=

That did the trick for me. I believe the problem has to do with the new memory card I started using. Good luck.

To take movie

You can take a movie up to 3 minutes. In shooting menus 1 or 2, go to "Menu", then "Continuous". Scroll down the Continuous screen to get to page 2, then select "Movie". Select your mode and click on that and you should be all set.

How do I set the continous shooting on my finepix s3380?

This information will be on page 40-41 of your user manual. If you do not have it, send me an email to LBrown18062@hotmail.com.
1. Choose a continuous shooting mode. Press the progressing camera button to display continuous shooting options. Press selector < or > to highlight the desired option and press MENU/OK.
2. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.
3. Pictures will be taken while the shutter button is pressed. Shooting ends when the shutter button is released, memory is full, or the selected number of shots has been taken.

Flash wont work, settings are on for flash, and the multiburst is switched off.

Please note that:

1. You can not use the Flash when the Camera is set to Burst or Multi Burst mode.

2. You can not use the Flash when the ISO or Twilight mode is selected in the Scene Selection.

3. You can not use the Flash when mode dial is set to Movie.

4. Ensure that the battery is fully charged and the flash is turned ON.

Please set the Landscape mode or Snow mode or Beach mode in the Scene Selection and check if the flash is working.

5. Try initializing the Camera and check if it works normally.

NOTE: Initializing the Camera will reset the settings of the Camera to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camera.

6. Please press the Menu button on the Camera. Then, select the SETUP menu and select the SETUP 1 option of the Camera. Then, select the Initialize option to OK.

7. Try to power reset the Camera and check if it helps to resolve the issue. I suggest that you reset the Camera by removing the battery from the Camera and inserting it after 1 minute.

8. If the issue still persists then the Camera requires service.

Try menu-> setup->setup1, initialize, ok- this resets calendar and time as well. It brought mine back to correct mode selection.  Also make sure your battery is fully charged.

Accessing Continuous Mode

Hi,

Are you in manual mode (and not auto) when trying to select continuous or best shot? Try lowering the image resolution also.

Accessing Continuous Mode

Some details first...
  • The continous icon looks like multiple papers stacked on top of each other (in contrast the normal icon for single shot is a square box with an S in it so you can get it back to normal)
  • The camera takes shots at 1.5 frames per second, or about three frames every two seconds for image size of 2272x1704.
  • The shutter-release button has to be held down
  • Continuous is not available in HI image quality
  • Shooting will slow when memory buffer fills.
Setting to continuous...
  • Put your camera in P, S, A, or M mode.
    • I suggest P mode, this is for Program mode and does everything as Auto does, but allows you to override settings (except Aperture and Shutter).
  • Press the Menu button
  • Access the Continuous menu
  • Select the Continuous menu option, again looks like layered papers.

Flash Problem

First step would be trying to reset all defaults, which I'd imagine is in the setup menu. Make sure you are also not in a mode which turns off the flash. For the 990 at least these are: The built-in flash will automatically be set to ?Off? when: ? you use autofocus with a setting of ?Infinity? ? you choose a multi-shot setting of Continuous, Multi-shot 16, VGA Sequence, or Ultra HS (an external flash can still be used with these settings) ? you choose a multi-shot setting of Movie ? you use best-shot selection (BSS) ? you use lens converter (LENS) settings ? the AE Lock option in the EXPOSURE OPTIONS sub-menu is on make sure your batteries are fresh and fully charged. if nothing works, consult a professional on repair, use an external flash, or use it just when the sun is out... Good luck!
