Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Picture from 60" to 19" then gone.

Our 60" TV was like posted previously on here, normal then would shrink to about 19" and stay. After several months of this it finally went out all together. This was about 8 mths ago and we just moved the TV to an unused room of the house in hopes of finding someone to fix it. We found someone this week who was willing to look at it and after one day he told us it was the picture tube, the coolant had turned to gel and it wasn't worth fixing. I found this site and our problem seems to be similar to ones on here but the kit, and I did order it, doesn't mention the picture tube. Could this guy be full of it and only be trying to sell us a new TV?

I ordered the kit that was compatable to our serial number on the TV. It came from www.tvrepairkit.com. Will this work for the shrinking picture?

Yes - You can get a repair kit for the shrinking/expanding video problem on www.TvRepairKits.com. They have a rpair kitfor your Magnavox model that you listed above. "9P6034C103".

FYI - After a few weeks or months of shrinking/expanding the set will stop working. You won't have audio or video at that point.

The fluid is a fairly easy replacement. They just need to remove the CRT with the bad fluid and drain the old fluid and clean the CRT and then replace the fluid. The Shrinking is just a Vertical Deflection problem which is also an easy repair. A new Vertical IC and a couple Capacitors. In my shop it would run @ $200.00 to fix both.

I don't get the web site when I click it and I can't get there by typing it in. What is the Kit Part #? And which repair is it for?

Yes that should take care of shrinking problem.

This is a common problem on certain models of Philips Magnavox TV sets. The most common symptom is the screen will shrink and expand over and over. After the TV heats up for a while the video will work like normal. After a few weeks or months your TV will eventually stop working and not have video. NO PICTURE HAS SOUND

When you say small do you mean shrunk up top and bottom as well as from side to side. You definitely have a deflection problem either horizontal or vertical. If the picture just shrunk top and bottom you have a vertical deflection problem. Do you have the service manual for your model? If not let me know and I will email you one. Describe the shrinking issue a little more and I should be able to give you some guidance.

Sounds like a problem in the deflection circuits either vertical or horizontal. You may also want to check the solder connections in the tuner as they have been known to develop cracks over time. But the prior shrinking tends to say deflection problems. If I can assist you further please let me know.

ITS PROBABLY THE RED PICTURE TUB (CRT). IT LOOKS EASY TO INSTALL, BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SCREEN ONCE IT IS INSTALLED. THE PART IS $3OO. TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT FOR $150 OR LESS. HERE IS A WEBSITE TO HELP YOU MAKE ADJUSTMENT IN THE FUTURE ON YOU OWN.

Sony Trinitron kv32fs16 picture shrinks

You have a bad solder connection in the vertical circuit. This will require you to resolder these bad connections before it blows out the vertical output IC or other parts in the circuit. Do this ASAP before you make a small repair into a large one. If you have no solid state printed circuit board experience, please play it safe and take the set into a pro to do this for you. Good Luck
