Question about Audio Players & Recorders

3 Answers

I have just bought a Denon CHR F103 (with DRA F102 DAB receiver). All was working fine & I had about 20 albums stored on HD - last night I tried to play a track from HDD - said no tracks / HDD full - so put in a CD to play - it won't play the CD, Gracenotes finds no info (when it did last week) and it won't eject the disc. Have tried rebuilding index & re-initialising - no joy. Denon say take it back but really want it working for Xmas. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Kathy A

how do I reset it please - the manual & helpline don't say - I tried re-starting & holding down the 'Music search' button to re-initialize but no joy. I don't mind wiping the hard drive & staring again if necessary....

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls connect the CHR-F103 to your computer through the USB port. The computer through the Denon Music Manager application software can and would confirm if your library is gone, the hard drive is unrecognizable. The computer would treat the Denon as an external storage media and could perform tests.

If even with the PC, the Denon would not be recognized, then it is likely that the Denon has suffered a firmware glitch. Just like in a computer, a reset would be necessary. Keep it unplug for an extended period of time hopefully to revert back to factory defaults.

Should the above fail, then nothing else could be done without opening the unit which of course would void your warranty. Your best bet would then be to seek warranty services.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

From description the unit looks faulty, and as problems concern different functions (CD, HD etc.) the fault is probably because of a defective control software/firmware.

I do not think the firmware is freely distributed by Denon.

If I was in your shoes I would have the unit replaced or refunded.

If you need further help I can pass you the contact of our Denon specialist, or invite him to this thread, he will answer within 24 I think.

Sounds like the drive went, I assume you tried a reset, pulled the plug etc. if still nothing you are better off returning it, as opening it up will void the warantee, and you can return it now, but if you play around with it there may be a problem returning.

Denon dra 397 shuts done if I turn on both zone a & b. Have a 100 watt volume control on each pair of speakers. Works fine with only zone a or zone b on, but not both.

Let's understand this - you have an external volume control wired in series with each front speaker set?

Can you elaborate on their electrical characteristics?

You have bad connections on your circuit boards, if you are handy with a solder iron then you will need to touch up the solder joints.

Denon receiver (DRA 397) will not speak to iPod dock

IF YOUR NOT USING A DENON IPOD DOCKING STATION IT WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
YOU CAN CONNCET OTHER TYPES OF IPOD DOCKING STATIONS BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE CONTROL THROUGH THE DENON AND ONLY CONNECT THE AUDIO FOR THAT DOCKING STATION TO THE DENON AS ANOTHER SOURCE INPUT

What excatly do i need to connect my ipod to the Denon dra-f102

All you need is a 3.5mm mini jack to 3.5mm mini jack stereo lead, plug one end into the "portable in" input on the denon receiver and the other into the headphone input on your ipod. Et viola.

Dolby True HD

I don't think TrueHD can be passed over s/pdif. I think it requires HDMI (1.3) audio or 8 RCA outs/ins.
