My HP 116 EFM was working fine today until a little girl was alone in the room with her mother. Perhaps she pushed a button? I can still hear the FH but neither that nor the contractions are recording. Paper still advances. Error code HLP 3. Any ideas? I know it's an old machine but it was working fine. Or does anyone know where I can get a manual for it? PS It's not an EKG machine AND I know the brand but I couldn't post without filling in the blanks and EFM and HP weren't options!

I have seen two different issues cause this error code. The most common is the DSP board and the second cause could also be the main processor. If you have another unit I would try to switch the DSP first. If you look at the unit from the front the DSP board is the one on the far right. Unfortunately I do not know of a way to troubleshoot that error down to the component level. If you want to give us a call we can assist you with the parts. Unplug the ethernet cable, If it does not come up with the code then.
Search for something like internet printing turned on somewhere.
That's a freaky code that normally is associated with some odd ball print job being sent to the printer, or something trying to access the network address. It is a pain sometimes to diagnose.

Turn off the machine & then turn on after 10 seconds. than press ALT 1 1 0 STOP in a sequence. That will solve your problem for printing in AUTOMATIC Mode
