The freezer part of my refrigerator was not cooling. The top part was getting warmer. I was told the fan my have frozen. I defrosted the freezer with a hair dryer. Water came puring down the back of the freezer wall were the coils are. Where does this water go? I could not find the drip pan. The fan is now working. How log does it take till the refrigerant and freezer to get to the right temperature?

8-12 hours and the water goes into a drain pan under the unit. The water will evaporate over time.

SOURCE: water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

SOURCE: Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Fridge running but not cooling

Sounds like you're low on gas...assuming that the condenser coils are clean.

Frozen @ bottom, warmer(but cool) @ top

what your looking at is the pictorial break down of the freezer compt.
If the fan is important for airflow i would inspect part 3 as well, this is your defrost t-stat and controls when you need to go into and out of defrost, with extra frost i would tend to think your not goin inot defrost and its building up, not allow the fan to circulate the air properly.
while your in there you might want to check the heater as well
take a multi meter, and check the heater for continuity, sometimes these bend all out of shape as well and dont connect they way they should

Freezer and frige not that cold

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Cooling problem with a ge top freezer refrigerator

I have one that did the same. The coil in the back of the freezer was frosting up because it wasn't defrosting like it was supposed to. I noticed that the thermostat looked damaged so I ordered a new one from sears parts direct which by the way will show a diagram of the model you have. I just installed it last night so I will post how it comes out. This morning the freezer has a burnt smell but I am hoping its from the defrost not working for a while!

Fridgedair side by side

what to you mean by defrosted fridg. was frost built up in freezer>? check freezer for frost build up and if fan blowing, check condenser make sure clean, and fan blowing, check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, freezer control should be in the middle setting, OR you can try turning that to Warmer freezer allowing MORE air to refrigertor side.
