Re: uniden scanner lockout
Just un-install it and re-install it as long as you have the software. otherwise it's a longer procedure, and your more likelly to mess something else up than if you just go into add remove programs in the device manager and remove the program. By the way there is a physical "lock" on some older Uniden models, on the side of the unit, I am, somehow able to remember this from a decade ago ,having run into this problem before. take a look on the sides and top for a switch, and if that model doesn't have one then try what I suggested above. good luck and happy holiday

Many scanners contain a scanning head lock to keep the scanning head from moving during shipping. This may still be still be in the lock position. All scanners are different but check the documentation on how to remove the head lock.
If the key is removed, the lock is gone from it. It's just a clear piece of plastic in there. What could be causing the L1 to happen is the ribbon cable underneath the scanner glass is out of place causing the scanner to stall. This is a common problem with the AL copier line. You can take the scanner glass off and check the cable for any binding going on with it.
To unlock a scanner open it where you would put cartridges in and look
for a red or green colored tab hanging down. There should be a little
picture of a padlock. You can switch it from lock to unlock. It's kept
locked to protect the scanner during shipping.
There is a small clear plastic circle under where the paper comes out, it has two positions, lock and unlock, sometimes when people grab the copies they bump it to lock, use a flash light and make sure its unlocked, you can also just remove it, it was there for shipping. L-codes = scanner lock problems, real cold conditions can cause the scanner greases to not allow the scanner to move fast enough, put the copier somewhere warm. Good Luck!!!
Do you not have a manual or 'get you started sheet?'
It is the first thing you do when unpacking a scanner is to unlock the shipping lock.
In all probability it is under the scanner base so if it is a lifting item[to access the printer] check there,or on the backplate of the scanner where all the sockets are.
Failing that get onto the Tech support site at Canon.
