Question about Emerson MS3108 Shelf System

The rubbing Emerson CD player

This is one of those that a door opens and you place the three CDs on the deck one beside the other.

After puzzling through your answer, I realized you were talking about the shove em into the slot type.

Seems like since the seating is faulty some sort of alignment of the piece onto which the CD sits may be required

Here is my original note for your convenience. Many thanks and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! Dave
I have an Emerson model ms3108. The third of three cd disc players does not allow the cd to seat properly. So extreme is the problem that you can hear the cd rubbing, and it goes slowly. It seems to be rubbing at the top of the disc, and there is a noticeable gap at the bottom. This is consistent. The second cd disc player also has the problem, but less severe and does play the cd with a little persuasion. The machine's door also opens very often. My guess was that was due to the improper cd seating. Is there anything I can do about this situation?

Hello, is this a carosel type loader? they have other internal parts that rotate it for selecting cd,s i understand what you mean.
the reason i say to open the case is incase there is something obstruction the mechanism from going in to the right return position
if you allready checked for this and theres nothing blocking the return cd holding part. then you may need to check this cage assembly for internal broken loose screws or jammed parts.
some plastic parts sometimes break or wear out and cuase the return cage to not load the cds properly. this is a loader issue
your on the right track, it is something with the returning cage
also at times the rubber shock resistant booties on the cd reader & motor assembly they are missaligned or come apart
if a cd dosent sit properly it pushes the drive motor and thats when the rubber mountings can come apart. reader assembly & motor mounts. check for this also.
good luck with your player.

the only suggestion I can offer is clean the laser lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol gently and allow several minutes to dry, if that fails! the whole assembly will need to be replaced.

This is an easy fix if you are somewhat handy.... The belt for the door/tray is slipping. If you remove the enclosure and face plate, you will see two motors below the disc drive. Press eject while observing the pulley to the left. You should see the problem with the motor shaft spinning and the belt slipping. Replacing the belt is possible without any further dissassembly. Simply bend some light wire into an L shape and you should be able to hook both pulleys and lace the new belt on. As far as obtaining a new belt I decided to do the simple thing and use a slightly smaller rubber band. The repair has held now for almost three months and the player is used everyday. Good luck.

CD Changer & Tape Deck

{11-30-13)
TO FIX THE CASSETTE DECK BELT PROBLEMS:

- Disassemble the player.

(you will need only one, long, phillips head screwdriver $5.00)

[It is a tedious job. (first,study how it is put together) There are 6 screws on the back - three down deep holes, three at the bottom, and two dark colored ones on the side. Once the front covering is off, then you start the process to get at the Cassette deck. You will have to unscrew a ground wire; pull the "tape" connections and one wire bundle snap fitting; and then unscrew the two screws on the back, near where the wires for the speaker connections are placed... then remove the Cassette Deck.]

{I sat in my recliner with the whole thing in my lap as i worked with a foot stool near by to put things as they came apart... and i used a metal salad bowl to through the screws into as i went along.}

- Study the drive mechanism.

- See where the drive pulleys are.

- Use small elastic bands to replace the broken belts.
(small = 1/2 inch diameter ... the size of your little finger, but will stretch out to two inches or so.)

https://www.google.com/search?q=small+elastic+bands&espv=210&es_sm=122&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=6rGaUrTlCszloASJw4KQBw&ved=0CGYQsAQ

I happened to have these on hand:

12_1_2013_4_19_19_am.jpg

- I did this on my JVC PC-XC70BK and it worked.

- Both the player-side and record-side decks had broken belts.

[The fast forward and rewind wouldn't work on either side.]

(Per each deck: one drives play, one belt drives both Rewind & Forward)

- Now both decks work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TO FIX THE CD PLAYER ISSUE:
- My guess is the laser pick up is dirty (because they all face upward and oily film builds up on them).
- First try a disk cleaner with a brush on the underside of it.
- If that doesn't work, then (after taking off the front plastic cover plate {see above}), you can see where the upward pointing laser lens is. If you can, use Rubbing Alcohol on the end of a Q-Tip to probe into the area and thoroughly clean its surface. Then wipe it clean with a dry Q-Tip.
- If you can't get at the laser lens, then Disassemble the Unite.
[There is another ground wire that must be unscrewed from the deck assembly. And there is the issue of the tape connections leading to the top part of the unit ... they will flop around and fall out of their place once you have pulled them from the connectors ... with a bit of observation you can get them back correctly.]
- Unscrew two screws at the back ... then pull out the tray assembly.
.... then go as far in the disassembly as you need to so you can swab the laser lens with the Rubbing Alcohol.
- Re-assemble. I had one screw left over.
... ROTFL but i know where it goes and i don't care to get it there... so to hell with it, right?
Everything works fine now. Not bad for a 17 year old piece of equipment that has a Ten CD storage tray... that you can't get anymore... right?
Emerson MS9700 CD Shelf System - CD Tray won't open
You have to unscrew the whole thing and take the whole metal covering off and then the inner tray will be displayed and then you can just take the CDs out and then screw the cover back on. Happened to me, and that worked :]
New CDs may have some rough spots around the inner and outer edges. If such a CD is used, this unit may reject the CD. To remove these rough spots, rub the edges with a pencil or ball-point pen, etc.
