The printer is having lots of trouble picking up paper, it will sometimes print one or two sheets, but then gets stuck. I've followed the directions on the HP website for cleaning the pickup for tray 1, but it has not solved the problem, so I'm guessing that the issue is the paper pickup for tray 2. I've looked around in the back but cannot see anything obvious.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You have not provided your printer model, nor have you described where the jam occurs, so you get a generic answer for the most common causes. 1. The printer tries to pick up more than one sheet at a time. This is caused by a worn-out separation pad on the paper tray (usually this is a small square of cork sheet). 2. The paper does not enter the printer properly because the pickup roller is worn out. 3. The paper turns to the side somewhere in the printer. This is caused by a foreign object (usually a shred of paper) at the point where the paper turns. Sometimes you can pick the offending object out without major disassembly - you may have to make a hook out of a piece of wire to get it. 4. The paper accordion-folds at a roller set. The roller set is worn, or there is a problem with its drive gear. Accordion jams at the output roller were the most common mechanical problem with HP Laserjet 4 printers as they aged. 5. In the early days of computer printers, paper sometimes had a tiny burr on one end that would hang up and snag along an extra sheet on pickup from the tray. The fix was to remove the paper stack and turn it around so the burrs were on the other end of the tray. Sometimes fanning the paper stack before putting it in the tray would help. Paper manufacturing has improved since then, so these problems are relatively rare today, but if you have an old box of paper reams, it could be an issue.
Step 1:Check with another cartridge Step 2:Switch off the printer take out tray 2 casette, swich on the machine check while intializing the printer tray 2 pick up roller rotating?.. If its rotating check solnoid which is located right side under the main moto assembly, clean the solnoid as shown in the anap shot..fix it back. Step 3:Open right ,left & top covers.., close cartridge access door check is it driving the laser scanner shutter?, if not check the sccess door knotch broken/bend.
How much paper gone throught the printer since it is new?
usually the pickup roller is good for 10,000-15,000 sheets.(20x500 sheet pack). if the printer went throught that much paper, then the pick up roller need to be replaced.
if not, make sure there nothing stucked on the pickup roller, and the roller is not shining (it need to be soft and rough).
replaced the manual feed tray separation pad (it is right under the pick-up roller). The HP part # is RG5-2703. First remove the pickup roller then you can pops it out with a small straight slot screw driver.
this is indicate that the roller is having some kind of problem.
open the backdoor, make sure there is nothing preventing the roller (should be 3) do its job.
take out the paper from the paper tray. make sure there nothing in the way of center roller path.
re position the paper. load enough paper, so that the paper is right under neath the center roller, remove 2 sheet. try to print. if it pickup the paper, then it is telling you that the roller need to be replaced. if it still having problem pickup the paper. then there is something else we need to investigate.
