Adding US maps

I have downloaded the map files, but they are in .map format, whereas the rest of the maps that are installed are in .psf format.
The medion device does not recognize this map.
What should I do?

I bought a lifetime update from Garmin a few years ago but now my nuvi 270 tells me that I don't have enough memory to install the latest maps and that I must choose only certain regions. I have an 8Gb...

The internal memory of the nuvi is full. Some maps will need to be delete before any new maps can be added. Typically, the map in the nuvi is named GMAPPROM.IMG and a map installed to an SD (or SDHC) memory card is named GMAPSUPP.IMG.

1) Remove the SD card from the memory slot

2) Connect the nuvi to the computer via USB cable.

3) Open the nuvi drive.

4) Locate and delete the GMAPPROM.IMG (or GSUPPROM.IMG) file(s). Optionally copy (instead of deleting) them to your hard drive in case there is a problem wit the new map file(s).

5) Empty the Recycle Bin.

6) Retry the map update of the nuvi.

This method will take some time to perform depending on how many map segments you are sending to the nuvi. Transferring the entire map can take over an hour. A quicker way is to send the maps to the SDHC card directly by inserting the card into a card reader. This eleminates the slow Garmin card reader from the equation and transfers are done in a fraction of the time. No maps will be on the nuvi - they will all be on the memory card instead. To update the SD or SDHC card, do this:

1) Repeat steps 1 thru 5 above. This removes the maps files from the nuvi.

2) Disconnect the nuvi from the computer.

3) Connect a card reader to the computer.

4) Insert the SD or SDHC card into the reader.

5) Locate and delete the GMAPPROM.IMG (or GSUPPROM.IMG) file(s). Optionally copy (instead of deleting) them to your hard drive in case there is a problem wit the new map file(s).

6) Update the map to the SD or SDHC card.

When either method is employed, only one map file set will result. GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPSUPP.IMG is the name of this file set. You should ensure / change the name to GMAPPROM.IMG. Any subsequent file set added should be named GMAPSUPP.IMG.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thanks.

TomTom stuck on homescreen

Connect TT to PC, open it by Explorer, create a new map, copy all data from TT to the new map, format the device, disconnect it from PC. Download and install TomTom Home program, install it, connect TT thru the program, make all installations that the program requires, close TTHome, open the device thru explorer, copy from the saved files the map containing the maps and the Voices map. Thos will take around 30 minutes. Then disconnect the TT, Power on, wait 5 minutes, power off and power on again. That's it.

Try this: 1. Connect your device to the computer 2. Make a backup of your addresses and favorites if you wish 3. In File Explorer, right click on the device (removable drive) >> Format 4. Start the Desktop 5. Go to My Mio >> Reinstall the software 6. Go to My Mio >> Recover Keys 7. You can now reinstall the maps from the Maps tab. Will not download maps from library computer

You do not need to download the maps from the library computer. All you need to do is, when you connect your gps to your computer, it comes up with an auto play page, select open file to view folder, then you copy maps and paste them in the folder where the maps are read from.
Take not that if the format of the files are not supported on your gps, it will not be able to read the maps. Be sure that the format of the maps are supported by the gps.

Installed 2010 North America map in garmin Nuvi 205w....now Nuvi sez ther is no readable map for it to load

I just got off the phone with tech support. They have a very complicated fix that involves remote accessing into your computer and editing files, etc. They said it would take over an hour and a half, I declined. The problem apparently is that the nuvi 200/205 can't support canada, but the maps contain canada = problem. and btw, i downloaded "City Navigator Lower 49 States+PR NT 2010.10, Deluxe, Apr 09" and got the same problem. this filename ends in a "B", apparently that's the "fixed one" but acc tech support it's only fixed in the sense that they can waste over an hr w' u fixing it, whereas the older files are unfixable.
I'm just gonna wait til they really fix it and upload those files.
Hope that helps.

Garmin etrex hxc gps adding m,ore map detail.

You will need to use Mapsource to transfer the maps to your GPSr unit. This should install when you install the Topo Britain program.

You will then choose which map segments you want to transfer, and the program will do the rest.
