Unable to connect to comcast using a Motorola SBG900 cable modem

Not able to get a connectivity utilizing a USB connection. Not certain I have the necessary LAN settings in place to do the connection. First time user of a Cable Modem through comcast.com.
Also, tried an ethernet connection with the same results. Getting a confirmation on the modem/router setup that the setup was successful but no connectivity and Comcast can't see where I am connected also.

SOURCE: cable modem + dlink router

Your modem needs to be rebooted in order for your router to pull an IP from the modem. To do this, look for a little hole in the back of your modem and use a pen to push the button. Wait for the reboot to finish and then try again in about 20 seconds.

SOURCE: Wi-Fi isn't working

This could be a duplex issue. When you log into the belkin does is assign you an IP address? Have you used a ballpoint pen to reset the EMTA since you have connected the router?

SOURCE: i have an arris tm602gct and cannot connect thru my netgear

Can you connect if you are directly wired into the router?

You may want to try using a ball point pen and pressing the reset button on the back of the arris. Let it reboot and try again.

Some netgear routers come with the wireless disabled out of the box, so you need to be hard wired when you run the CD or if you try to connect through your browser 192.168.1.1

SOURCE: Unable to connect Linksys wireless router to my arris cm450a

All routers will only work with ethernet. You would need to get an ethernet card installed in your computer. You can probably buy one for about 20.00 at Walmart. If you don't want to do this you can purchase a usb/ethernet adapter and still use the usb port on your computer. You can purchase one of these for around 5.00's on ebay. Just go to ebay and search for usb/ethernet adapter. Please rate if this has helped. Thanks.

SOURCE: Unable to set up wireless router

Shut down your computer, unplug the cable modem and the switch. Connect all three - computer to switch, switch to modem. Make sure that the ethernet cable between the router and the modem is in the router uplink port and that the computer is plugged into one of the four ports that look alike. Wait 30 seconds - plug in the modem. Wait another 30 seconds, plug in the router, wait another 30 seconds and boot the computer. Open a browser and see if you have internet access. If you still don't, then try to check the browser by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the browser. That should give you the browser sign in screen. The Linksys default is to leave the user name blank and type admin for the password. That should give you access to the router so you can check the settings. If this doesn't work, document carefully what happens and post again with your results and we'll try to go from there.

Bought on eBay, trying to setup with comcast. See wireless signal but can't connect to the internet. I got to the configuration page and changed the SSID and setup WEP but the internet is not working.

have you tried connecting an ethernet cable directly to the modem to see if the internet is working that way? Have you considered contacting comcast as they can make sure its on your end or their end. Use this faq to help you. If you need further assistance please let me know.

Hope this helps you on your journey

Let me know if you have anything else.

I also would recommend you use ethernet since you do not have to install any software to make it work.

You will need to reboot the cable modem when ever you change how its connected also Ethernet/USB or if it was connected to a different PC.

Software

Yes you can use USb modem, you need to uninstall modem software, disconnect modem and reinstall software configuring it as usb. Start installation with modem disconnected and follow User Guide SBG900

Note: usb modem is much slower than ethernet modem (even if you use same machine) . Instead of using modem as usb I suggest using an external Usb Network adapter.
