When your power supply died it probably killed the motherboard too. You can test the motherboard's viaablity with a stand alone video card.

My ibm thinkpad G40 wont turn on

Check the power source, plug it into the wall don't try to just run off the battery. If it still does not turn on plugged into a working outlet the power supply needs to be replaced.

Remember this is a DC output...Make sure you have the right wire hooked together. What I mean is if you soldered the wires make you didn't reverse the negative and positive. Otherwise look for a new power supply.

There are no fuses in the thinkpad there are power transistors and i would think that the main transistor has blown. If a USB plug was faulty it is possible it shorted out when you connected the canera and blew the transistor. It could be quite expensive to have this repaired, especially considering you can buy a toshiba L300 for about $400.

Soldered in new fuse, blew it right away...whats a good upgrade?

A new power supply will fix your problem, and when the fuse blows do not replace it. It blows to protect your computer. please replace with a new power supply.
