Question about Swintec 7040 Typewriter
Sounds like your selection sensor has got a wire broken. if you look at the wire bundle coming off of carrier, three of those are for selection sensor. 1 blue, 1 red, and 1 black. one of those are most likely broke from continuous movement of carrier back and forth. common problem on this machine. that repair would have to be done by a tech however, as it is not easy.

SOUNDS LIKE THE MAIN BOARD OR POWER SUPPLY HAS GONE BAD. A POWER SURGE WOULD DO THAT OR IT COULD BE OLD AGE TAKE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO BE SURE
