Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HP Pavillon 6157cTVPC product code GGo56AA#ABA purchased from Costco on 7-19-2007. The computer boots up and the desk top comes on. When I change things, the screen goes "white" and you can see anything. When I get a signal that I have an e-mail I can click on the signal and my e-mail comes up and can use the e-mail. The I click out of it to do something else and the screen goes white again. I can right click the white screen and get to goggle to get on the web. Any suggestions?

If you can right click on the desktop choose Properties>Settings>Advanced and see what monitor and display settings are set.

Try safe mode and see if it still happens then, if it doesn't then i would reinstall some video drivers and maybe reinstall direct-x. i suggest you also back up your important files before things get worse if safe mode works out. after you back them up if the driver installs and whatever else you have tried hasn't done the trick, i would just reformat.

Get the orange plastic top off the black ink cartridge

With respect to your HP OJ J4680 printer, which uses HP 901/901XL ink cartridges, it sounds like this is either a compatible/clone cartridge from overseas in which case you should not remove the orange top as it is molded into the cartridge, or you recently purchased or had the ink cartridge refilled (at Costco, etc.) and the storage clip (which seals the base of the cartridges to prevent the nozzles from drying out) is attached to the ink cartridge. If this is a storage clip, just press hard on the clips top lever at an angle to remove. See our videos on cartridge care tips and how to troubleshoot an ink cartridge error/problem on the HP OJ J4500, J4600 and OJ 4500 series printer models:

If you need to purchase new HP 901 ink cartridge(s) and are trying to cut costs, we suggest you try a remanufactured ink cartridge from http://www.inkplicity.com/ as their ink cartridges typically have the lowest cost in the USA, have a high reliability rating, come with a 1-year warranty and provide free shipping for all orders above $20.

Desk top power supply

It's not likely a power supply issue. I assume that you've tested the monitor and keyboard on another computer to confirm that they're functioning properly. The power button LED should flash a number of times indicating what the issue is.
That's likely to be a motherboard issue over a power supply issue. Unplug the computer, then pop off the side and ensure that all internal connections are secure. I always unplug and then plug back in.
If that doesn't do the trick, see the following troubleshooting guide:
