Question about Dirt Devil M085805 Upright Vacuum
I just bought this vacuum and it won't suck up anything. I've cleaned the hose out to make sure its not clogged and it isn't. My mother bought the same vacuum and has the same problem! What do we do?
Take the vac bag off and turn on the vac , it should blow air out, if not unclogg the hose where the bag connects, also when you check the roller and belt, unclog the flex hose(located inside base near roller assembly) that sucks up the dirt. As long as the motor works fine the rest is just maint.

Check brush roll rotates. also check air path away from brush roll - this is the most likely area for a blockage. to do this you will have to take the base off and remove the brush roll

Dirt Devil stinks! I would say it sucks but that would be a lie.

Check the bottom roller, sometimes if it is jammed with thread or string or hair, it won't roll and pick up dirt, just cut out the strings or hair with a pointed small scissor.

The screws along the base of the vacuum must be removed . The vacuum cleaner cover must then be removed exposing the suctioning hose syphoning the debris from brush roll area. Pull the hose from the brush roll area letting it hang freely. Remove the back side removeable hose from its base and force a straigth piece of pipe through the hose to force out the clog through the free opening.

I would start by checking the hose for blockage. You can use anything long like a coat hanger to poke around and look for something like a hairball clogging the line. Second there is a valve that activates when you use the top line that redirects suction from the bottom to the top. You should be able to access it from the back. Follow the hose to where it connects to the vacumn and there should be a few screws that give you access to the valve. Open it up and make sure its lose and can open and close to divert suction. Those are the two things I would start with.

from the problem you are describing, you are on the right track of locating the issue. It sound as if you hav a blockage in the lower foot of the vacuum.
